Thanks.....I wouldn't say its amazing lol, but it is a nice micro spot thats for sure.

Added the new filter I made last night on today. Seems to work fine, pulls air through a bit better then the other one.
I'm leaving it closed for 2 hours or so and then will check on it to see what the temps get like after that much time....should reach its max temp before then.

I also put the exhaust fan fully into the large end of the pvc end fitting. Now the fan housing lip fits perfect where the pvc fitting reduces to 3inches. No need for silicone now.

The best part is my 3rd socket is no longer obstructed....it was with the elbow in as well as with the other filter I made.

Hopefully the temps hover around 30c, but im not holding my breath.

heres a few pics...

Well, had a bit of a issue today.

last night after testing, temps were fluctuating up and down from like 31-33ish
I decided to try flipping it around and push air through.
I went out for the UFC last night and was gone 5-6 hours
Today I see that the temps got up to just over 34c....the highest it been! Not good.
So, I played around with the carbon thickness today and in doing so, the fan i took out of the pvc slid off the tub and fell but was caught by the wires.....except the damn wires broke off at the fan motor!
LOL, I started to panic instantly as I knew if I don't fix this now its game over because no airflow means temps too high to do it.

Anyways, had no fans left but one. One that I tried to avoid from the start. My 92mm Vantec Tornado. Sucker spins at like 5000rpm and pushes 120cfm at full speed. I used to have it on my old overclocked P4 back in the day.
At full speed this thing sounds like a harrier fighter jet (but really a loud hairdryer or heatgun). Its 12v dc and 1 amp.
I have it hooked currently to a 4v ac adapter and I can't hear it in the cupboard over my computer running (door open its obvious) and since it doesn't fit in the pvc like the other fan, I had to come up with something fast to get it secured.
In my panic, this idea popped into my head. I tried it and it worked perfect the first time. I swear it was like I invented the wheel. I was so surprised and fucking relieved that it worked so well.
All I did was bend a coat hanger to fit the fan and then put the two ends through the 2 holes in the tub handle, then bent them off tight.... with the hanger pushed up on the bottom of the fan as much as possible before bending.
Works perfect, its snug and you cant move the fan and its tight against the pvc....all i did was put a small piece of hockey tape on each side just to make sure its sealed in for the most part.

I'm testing it right now and have my fingers crossed. I put a good inch or more of carbon in (more then before) and when its running even at 4v, I can feel it sucking through the carbon pretty decent....more then the other fan for sure.
I can feel a small but noticeable draft at the intake as well, more then with the other fan too.
So I have high hopes right now (pun intended, im high) so, well see how this goes.
I can always up the voltage if I need to, I got 6v, 8v, 10v junk adapters laying around so if I need to up the voltage it a bit I can.

I'll do it as long as the noise is within reason and still borderline stealthy. This fan at full would definitely solve my temp issues for sure tho lol

Heres some pics....I need to clean the fan good after the test....its good some dust caked on there good.

After some testing, looks like the Tornado is gonna work ok.

Temps were rising a bit last night, I played around with the filter n stuff.

Today after 6hrs of lights on, I just checked the temp and its stable at 28.5c . Under 30c, perfect!

The better thing is that I took the plunge and bought some air phase carbon online off of ebay.

Store called..... ChemicalConnection

larger size then what I have currently, I think they are 4mm pellets. 2lb for $20 +shipping. I paid about $18-20 for 400g of this aquarium shit.

Also, hopefully I can go back to a 80mm as the airflow should be less restrictive as this stuff wont pack tight hopefully.

Anyways, tomorrow the little ones are 3 weeks old. I think that I will be starting 12/12 tomorrow.
They have recovered from the fimming and starting to grow rapidly, I don;t want them to outgrow the tub.

Last night when I watered them, I bent them all over and LST'd them with zip ties.
I'll keep doing this as they grow and stretch in the next 1-2 weeks. Trying to keep them contained while all bud sites are exposed to light and let them grow upward and so I can tie them down once they have.

I need to get me soe new 2700k cfls, I got nothing left in my place. Used to have a bunch.
All I have right now are 3 or 4 13watt cfls lol....shit
But i'll throw a couple in for now til I grab new ones.

Update w/pics tomorrow

Well, today the little ones are 3 weeks old. They are doing well.

I was going to switch to 12/12 today, but I think that I am going to hold off for at least another week.
I want to try and get a few more nodes developed so that I can tie down the main stem around the pots a bit more an get a few more shoots for flowering.
I am also hoping to see the start of some pre-flowers but I'm not holding my breath cuz they could still be 2 or 3 weeks away
Depending how they all grow in the next week (There are 3 different phenotypes growing at different rates), I think I'll start 12/12 @ week 4 .... Unless I feel I can go a bit longer.

Another reason I'm delaying is because I'm waiting for my new air phase carbon to come. With what I currently have, if I add lights its going to spike the temps up.
Hopefully, the new stuff will solve my temp issues finally because its larger and should let more airflow through. Hopefully I can go back to my original exhaust fan and retire the tornado as well.

The other day, I bent and tied them down with zip ties. They have responded pretty quickly and all the lower shoots are going quickly. In the past 2 days it's been pretty noticeable how they all have grown.
I fimmed them @ week 2. However, I'm not sure if they are all actually fimmed as from the looks of it one or two look like they are responding like they were topped. During this next week I'll be able to tell for sure as they will all have developed a bit more in that area.

Here are some update pics to show their progress...

Are you going to keep all of the side branching or are you going to just keep the main cola? What shape are you LST'ing your plants too?

Well,

The plan is to lst the main stem and try to maintain it at a certain level.

I want to expose all the budsites to light so with the hormone change from fimming and lst, they will grow quickly.

The hope is that once I flower all the shoots will stretch up and develop like they were main colas (hopefully they do not grow side shoots themselves). This will come down to how much the shoots develop and how big they get (to support a bigger bud)

I'll maintain the main stem during the stretch, but let it grow up somewhat so its up to the lights (hopefully the rest of the shoots are doing the same)

The end goal is to open the tub up and have a canopy of buds sticking up, with the rest of the plants below them.

I've always wanted to try this technique as Ive seen it with med to large plants and the results are amazing. Seeing the plants bent over and seeing what would be the lower popcorn shoots with buds the size of the main cola is reason enough for me to try it out.
It's on a smaller level for sure, but hopefully will be effective in my small space

I mean in the end Scrog, lst, etc are all pretty much the same thing. They serve the same purpose, just different methods.

Heres and example of how it looks when done....Wish I had my tent full of these

just flipped threw this thread and i like what i see.. this is one of the better rubbermaid setup's ive seen built around these forums..nice and clean bro!! plants look like they are doing fine too, so obviously your doing something right..my buddy tried a rubbermaid grow but the temps got way to high..micro grows can be a pain in the ass to keep under control sometimes... lookin good though man rep to you.

Nice setup! Fyi, I picked up some rectangular carbon sheets at wal-mart. I cut it to size and inserted on or two into the exhaust tube. They are for air purifiers. Works pretty well and the air flows well. +1 on LST. Most of my sub-branches have the same size bud, or bigger, than the main cola.

Well, the little ones are 4 weeks old now. They are doing good.

I have switched over to 12/12 now (yesterday) and now I must wait to see if I have 3 females. Hopefully I get at least 2. If I get none, I will be so upset.

I'm still currently only running 2 cfls. I'm still waiting on my carbon, so I can't put any more in without the temps going over 30. Once the carbon comes and hopefully the airflow is much better, I will toss in 2 more cfls for a total of 4. Depending on how the temps get, I may toss in another couple if I get some more splitters/adapters. you can see in the pics temps shows 30c....i forgot to crack open the cupboard before I went to sleep and the furnace was set a bit higher overnight (cold night)

I've been getting a little yellowing and rust spots mostly on my sativa phenotype, which is also slightly showing on my sativa/indica phenotype. The 3rd one that is mostly indica, might a a bit of fading but it looks like ts not having the same degree of a problem.

I think it is a ph problem ( might be salt buildup). I realized the water ive been giving as been higher then 7.5 (bottled water). Also, the dummy I am sometimes I totally forgot to poke holes in the containers so I could flush them when I want/need to. So I need to poke some holes for drainage. I will flush them in the next day or so when they need water again. I will feed them as well so hopefully the bottom leaves look a little better a week from now. Could also be that the lower leaves are being shaded enough, but I dont think thats the problem. aside from those things they look pretty healthy and I havent had any major issues.

Some of the lower shoots that were tiny are now growing big and some of them have shot out and are taller then the plants currently are. I'm seeing enough of them that Im hopeful that I will get a few main cola type buds (fingers crossed). you can see in the photos how they have responded to the lst

Hopefully within a week I will know if they are females.

so there it is, we are finally at the most exciting part.....the nug show.
Can;t wait to see what happens.

here are some pics......as I have in the rest of my updates, the plants are in the same order in "line up" photos as they were each time I have taken pics.....in the tub they move around cuz I rotate them daily and move them as they spread out so they fit centrally in the tub so they get the best light angles.

Yooo dude I like it I might really make one of the same box it'd be as low key as my pc and I could get a few more going at the same time easy enought to hook up a carbon filter to and light proof. Thats whats up they look nice and healthy

Not much of an update today, but like I said I would update when I did something/something happens

Day 4 of 12/12 now....and the stretch has already begun. Some of the first nodes on the plants have exploded upward and have grown pretty quick in the last 2 days.

Still no signs of sex, but I'm possibly seeing the beginning of white hairs on some of the tops (fingers crossed)...I'm sure by the weekend or the start of next week I will know for sure if they are in fact white hairs (maybe even by then able to see the sex from the nodes).

I do see the first signs of flowering though, as I am seeing the beginning of asymmetrical growth in some of the shoot tops.

What I got accomplished last night and today is finishing up painting a new Rubbermaid tub I bought last week. Its the same size as the one I have now. After I bought it, I painted the inside with 1 can of Krylon Plastic Black Satin. After drying, I still could see some light able to shine through. So, the other night I bought another can of black satin, as well as a white satin (flat wasn't available in the "plastic" version, only in the regular Krylon). Last night I used the 2nd can of black and today I finished it off with the white. It looks pretty good. I'm going to let it sit for the next week (takes 7 days to for it to get chip resistant). After that, I will probably let it sit some more to ensure that it cures nicely as well as heat it up with a bulb or something inside to make sure there will be no off-gassing once I start using it and it sees 20c-30c+ temps.

Has anyone used the Krylon plastic paint and then used it around plants? has anyone had any issues with it hurting plants or seen it happen?? I'd hate to have spent the money doing this only to have it kill plants you put inside.

Anyways, before I cut out anything from the new tub I'm gonna ponder some design changes. One thing that will be different is that I won't have the cords coming out by the lid. I'm planning on putting weather stripping around the top of the tub so its nice and sealed when you put the lid on. I want to make the holes for the pvc just perfect so that when I insert it, it seals itself so there is no need to seal around the pvc (unlike my current one which has gaps around the pvc because I wasn't careful cutting and is affecting airflow). I may or may not go with a smaller 2inch pvc intake, I'm not sure yet. I may add another 3 socket fixture on the other side to add more light (I will find out is this is feasible once I get the new carbon I'm waiting for so I can see how the temps are with 4 30w bulbs running with filter on...off is no problem)

The main reason I'm doing another one is because of some of those things above, as well as that the foil tape I used has some ridges popping up all over (as it will cuz of the temps) and some spots are letting slivers of light through. Sure you can just press it back down, but its always gonna happen again. Painting it solves that problem and ensures the entire tub is light proofed for good.

Anyways, here is a pic

I'd use those sheets, but I read a lot that they don't last long at all and I just want something that can last at least a little while without having to change constantly.

If I get fucked over after my new carbon comes and the temps aren't what I want with max bulbs in there, I may try the sheets to see how they do.

Yea it's a nice little spot that's for sure. I just really like it because it's pretty stealth (little less after the pvc fittings were added but still....from the side ( i.e. when you open a closet or whatever) you would never know it was a growbox)

Mini update

noticed just before lights off that the 2 that are more indica leaning are starting to produce little growths where preflowers show up, about 2 or 3 nodes down from the top of the main stem.

Too early to tell if it is female or male organs yet. Although in my mind I'm seeing nubs and thinking sacs. But like I said they are so tiny atm, it could be the start of a calyx or a sac

The Sativa leaning is not showing anything yet (although I only gave it a quick once over and didn't look too hard on that one)

I'm getting out the razor blades just in case, so I can slit my wrists if they are male.....:spew:

Holy shit it took me for ever to read the whole thread, your shit is way better than mine, I just threw it together in a day with a plastic container with stuff I had left over from my big box. Plants are looking great, I really enjoyed seeing how you solved-ish your ventilation problem, gave me some good ideas for when my fans come in. Was that book written by George Van Patten? I have one that looks similar that's just for general indoor growing that I got when I first started, but regardless of who wrote it, what's the title? I want it :bigjoint:

Yea I was hoping my larger carbon was gonna come this week but no, guess next week.

The book is THE BIBLE

Jorges Cervantes - Marijuana Horticulture : The Indoor/Outdoor Medical Growers Bible

I pretty much have this thing memorized lol . From back when I read it yearsss ago.

Yea my bad Van Patton...spaced out there....Baked
