Roto-Grow Journal

On the light burning the clones, I just wraped some window screen (metel screen, not the plastic crap) around the light tube in the middle of the grower. Start with 3 wrap arounds for 3 days than remove one. 2 or 3 days later remove another layer of screen and so on.
also as the gro goes on watch for signs of the plants becomeing root bound (cubes 2 small) I cured this by soking a fresh cube in the nut. resavoir and sliding it in until it was touching the root bound plant. The roots went for it and in a snap the plant was back to health. this happend on more than half of my plants so I always leave room

This is so cool! I just read everything. I found out about the Roto-Gro from Ed Rosenthal's Marijuana Grower's Handbook (dope book) and you just sold me on it.

I'm glad other people look at weed the same way I do. BTW you said you had some White Widow which happens to be the strain I'm maxing on (from Green House Seeds). Did you record any measurements for that strain? And if you did do you know where your White Widows came from? I want to compare yours to mine once I can cop one of these.

Good job dude and good luck in the future!

First let me apologize for my untimely departure. I won't burden you with the details, but I had a major family emergency that has consumed my life for months. I do appreciate all your support, and true to my word, I do have some pictures of the final product and my written journal with the yields. I will transcribe those notes to this web journal to finish the run soon as I find the box.

Sadly, I have to take a break from growing. Words cannot begin to describe how heartbroken I am, but it is necessary. I have had to move to a state that does not yet recognize the value and potential of this magnificent plant and because of that I have to give up my hobby for awhile until I get back on my feet. We all have been there and tough decisions are never easy. More to follow...

Even if you can not find the rest of the journal do you think you can post the final results? gr/watt ratio? Thanks, I am still thinking about getting a roto.

There are a couple of options. One is the circular tomato plant sheets, but the other is a reusable plastic cap, for this expressed purpous. Has an air flow chamber to allow air whilst blocking light from the surface. May help on "drying out" as well. A little pricey, but I think you could negotiate with the manufacturer. I have it bookmarked somewhere, but you can simply do a search for "rockwool" caps, and you would find them

I have been monitoring some algae development on top of the cubes and some of the nuisance brown algae in the reservoir. I have also noted DO level dropping significantly throughout the week, likely due to organic material in the water stream breaking down.

Although not an critical levels yet, I am anticipating it to get worse. Completely blocking the light from the reservoir does not seem to be an option given the Roto-Grow' design. The cubes are encased in plastic that prevent light penetration to the roots, save the top portion that is exposed to the center lights. I will likely need to either add a UV sterilizer to the intake pump or combat it chemically with an oxidation reagent (H2O2). The UV, while effective, will be indiscriminate on what organic material it will destroy, including any beneficial bacterias. This should not affect the root systems given it will be placed inline with the pump before the flood tray. H2O2 in high concentrations will also have a similar effect, however it will come in direct contact with the root mass. Given the relatively quick conversion to DO, it will likely be best to have the H2O2 added in between the flood cycles so that it has sufficient time to break down before being exposed to the roots. I will continue to monitor for fungus gnats or signs of pathogens and nematodes in the grow medium due to the presence of the algae.

Any hydro experts out there, feel free to weigh in with practical experience in this area.

Nice thread here ! I think to get the maximum yield from this awesome machine, you need genetics like chronic or m-39 and other mini bonzaï XXL yielding plant, the complete grand master level from Advanced Nutrients including Connoiseur PH perfect technology + Co2 burner and some Ice-box.

If you use all this stuff, you get 10 pounds even more. To yield 10 pound you only need 1/2oz from each 316 plant.
