Rot root?

Hi,

today I've changed the solution in the rez and I've taked a look to the roots..

I'm in a aero/hydro hybrid system. I've noticied that all the "aero roots" (the roots not direct in the water) are a lot brown... The same root in the water are white.

I'm using an organic bio booster that is brown and dense, is possible that this drying on the roots make his color changes?

I dont know what to think.. I've an acquarium chiller to keep the rez at 20°, I use Mineral Magic to prevent disease... plats are flowering normally.. all normal to me.

Hints?

Edit:

I've found this:

Brown colored roots. (Note: GH "Micro" will stain roots brown as well; stain darkens @ ppm's. Healthy root should be white or slightly tan)

I'm using GH Micro.. so it's normal?

It sounds like there is nothing wrong with your roots. I use Botannicare nutes and they also stain the roots a bit. If you had root rot the roots would have a slimy film on them... it would be pretty obvious.

The fact that you keep your res. cooled and I assume clean on a regular basis makes it unlikely that your discolored roots are rotting. Also... do you have an air pump in the res. to keep the mix oxygenated?

Hard to say without pics.... but from your description they sound fine. Check them each week to make sure they are not growing any "slime" on them. :D

Florida Girl thanks for the exaustive answer :)

Now I'm feeling better

I've touched the roots to feel, and no slime or bad odour, they seems to me ok, exception for the brown color.

And yes, I've a good air pump with air stone. I'm trying to do as best as I can.. using RO water, PH and EC meter, chiller... etc etc.. :D

Hey. I use Flora Nova and my roots get slightly brown as well.. I find the roots stay white until i go above 1000ppm. Once im over 1000ppm the roots turn slighty brown and stay that way until harvest.

I agree with florida girl, It's pretty obvious when you get root rot. It gets slimy and smells. As long as you have cool water and a few air stones you will be fine. Hell i had to cut down a male and leave his roots tangled with 5 other plants. His dead roots have been in the res for 1.5 months now and didnt rot or get slimy. Just make sure you flush res a lot, have a few airstone or air hoses and keep the res temps cool.
