Root Slim? Brown Algae? N.Lights w/ *PICS* please advise! +Rep for All!

So yeah my brother swears its not a problem and is from the nutrients...but im for sure this isnt good and that the tote we have them in isnt light proof as well, although he has done a grow in this before without problems, *note it was under 500w CFLs* Im afraid this algae or w/e will eventually lead to more serious root rot issues. right now the plants are fine and are growing.

slime.jpgslime2.jpgtop of tote.jpgbottom of tote.jpgslime1.jpg

PH: 5.8
Temp: 78*F
Water Temp: unknown, although shouldnt be more than 70*F cause my RDWC was running at like 63*F

Nutrients: GH Base, microbe brew, superthrive, liquid karma, silica blast, hygrozyme, roots excelarator, cal mag plus.

I added about 12ml of H202 29%, the tote holds about 4 gallons of water. i was thinking of adding another layer of mylar on the top or use panda film. but where would i put the seedlings while i do this? +Rep for all replies thank you all!

I get brown stuff on my roots from "nutrient build up " but your shit looks pretty bad and slimey. I only get some brown where there is a air gap from roots to water. anything under the water is clean. 78 degrees is way too hot you need to constantly be at 68 degrees use frozen water bottles or invest in some kind of cooler ( ice chest ) that will help with lowering the temps. Water chillers are 400 bucks and up.

Opinions will vary. But for me and alot of others on here. I use bleach at about 8 drops per gallon and it will knock that slime out. It works for me. Cheap and Simple

Hey, I found out just from experience that if I used new hydroton w/o rinsing all that brown powder stuff real real good, that got all ovr my roots and LOOKED like root rot. If you can rinse the roots off just try that nd try to keep ur reservoir clean... Gud luk

i put about 12ml H2O2 into it and its doing a good job jacking up the slime..i will do a res change tomorrow...also i got 8 blueberry OG and 7 Larry OG's clones coming in a few days and will run them in RDWC and Coco Coir. So stay tuned for that...i also took some Euforia cuttings yesterday as I am experimenting with cloning so hopefully they pull through! Ill keep you posted on the updates with this grow...I am considering putting them in seperate 5 gallon pots as they will eventually be transplanted into 5 gallon buckets anyways..this tote was just to conserve some space as my grow room in increasingly getting smaller and smaller, especially when these clones come in it will be very packed! I believe the H202 should be enough to knock the slime out instead of having to use bleach...

drop the zyme if your using h202 and the superthrive gave me the slime so id drop that to. this is my opion
so do what you want. H202 kills bennys and will help get rid of the slime although it will not 100% kill it.

First off, if the H2O2 was doing such a great job of "jacking up" the slime then you would not be posting of having bad slime IMO. There are alot of one dimensional people on here that think one way is the best way without ever giving other options a try. I have never used H2O2 and it's not because I can't afford it. Money is not my issue. It's more of a preference. I have googled and searched around and have not found anything or anyone that has had any negative effects from using bleach in small amounts. People have their opinions and opinions are like assholes. Everybody has one. Go to a few threads and read around and see how many other people have tried the bleach and it killed their slime. It's not some deadly killer like some may think. Just trying to help you out. Good Luck!!

i also got slime using superthrive + h2o2.. since then I've switched the DM Zone (usage as per label) with no more rot or slime. oddly enough i still use h2o2 only during res changes to kill anything that may have survived.

I was thinking about using bleach...how long would you run it in the system before you flush? also i dint know about h202 and superthrive giving you slime...my question is the slime it produces negatively effect the roots in any way? i also thinking about running a EWC tea in the 9 site RDWC as well as this tiny 3 site, i cant seem to find Ancient Forest anywhere though, so will probaly have o order it. Also the H202 is doing a good job of "jacking up" the slime and i posted of having bad slime before i used the h202 because i run bene bacteria in my grows so i wouldnt be using h202 in my nute regime...

in a 2 week cycle in my res this is how I do it. 1st week 55gal. =200ML H202 thats or 7ml per gal.
at the have way point of the week I use bleach at 20ml for 55gal. or 7 to 10 drops per gal.
and at the start of the new im back with the H202 this proactive adding never changes veg through
flower. bleach is so misunderstood, I have no side affects from this. now I am also in a seperate
system testing DM zone.

I am kinda with HR. But I don't use h2o2 at all. I use bleach added to my rez at rez change and if I notice the slime or anything between then and the next rez change then I'll add a little more to knock it out. I add it in a cup so I know how much I'm adding instead of just pouring the bottle in the rez.

been thinking of droping the H202 and trying the bleach every three days, same adding cycle as before just no h202.
also doing a test with DM-zone everything I read says its a win win to this shit. as for all that brown gummy stuff on
your roots your going to have to clean all that off! just use a tub with ph 5.8 water and H202 at 7ml per gal, I say
H202 cus its going to be a more dirrect aplication. while soaking try and brush it off with whatever means you can
thats save to the roots.

not going to go against what heisenbergs thread and ideas say, but from my experence its cheaper to go without the bennys and
I havnt seen any better results in having them and not having them, I have seen good results with them in soil.
there is x2 ways to battle this and its all about the $ you want to throw at it

I have cleared this with bleach and h202 BUT you can not use both together. I prefer H202 as the plants seem to outperform ones using bleach.

I use 35% food grade at 0.28ml/l and its cheap as chips. Added daily. You should be able to clear that easily as root ball is so small.

I just checked this morning and it seems the H202 is breaking down and the slime is coming back full force. Im going to do a res change and hit it with the bleach and see how that goes.

If you have what I think you have then its not algae but a bacterial bloom. What you should do it sterilize your rez and then inoculate with beneficial bacteria that will starve out the bad brown slime bacteria. Check out Heisenberg's thread

I also have read heisenbergs thread on bene bac. but i can not seem to find ancient forest at any hydro stores..would you recommend anything to substitute it? also i was running microbe brew before using h202 and the slime was still present. Is this maybe because there is light coming through the top lid? As i am almost positive that it isnt 100% light proof.

saying you cant use together isnt true at all im living proof you can use together, not trying to piss anybody off just stating your rong.

ive tryed all the bennys spent ass loads of $ on different brands with no real win to this slime. I found no bennys with H202 and bleach to be way cheaper
and I clearly see better results, that being said ive seen on RIU peeps getting good results with bennys, but even AL B FUCT says its better to go with H202
without bennys.
