Root Aphids

Man just figured out i have a root aphid problem. I just added 4 oz of azatrol to my 35 gal reservoir. I am letting the flood table (4 x 4) flood for an hour or so. Lots of aphids are being pulled from root zone. I will add fresh water with a bit more azatrol for added protection. Any tips? Am i making the right moves?

I had the same problem ( came in with a gift clone ). I did the same as you and it worked fine. I kept adding Azatrol for the next couple of res changes. I also used axatrol in the clone reservoir and added it at the beginning of the veg and bloom stages as it takes a while to totally get rid of them. Good luck

Ok here's what you need. Go to lowes or home depot and grab a product called tree and shrub from bayer.
It will kill them in a day and anything else that may be hangin out like fungus gnats. Its only 24 bucks. Mix 5 to 10 ml per gallon and flood em a couple times for 1 to 2 days. I do my floods for 12 minutes at a time. Goodluck

Right on, they seemed to die pretty quickly with azatrol. Stuff expensive tho. What dosage do you recommend? Do you remember?

Right on, thanks for the info. What is the active ingredient in tree and shrub? Permethrin or something? How did you apply the azatrol? This stuff has never let me down, we will see.

Are these root aphids real destructive? Are they as bad as mites?

These bastards eat the new roots. I have seen the damage on rock wool cubes, where the roots are sprouting out. They turn the white roots brown and the plants just stagnate. With in 2 days you should notice the difference - plants will green up and go through a growth spurt. Again best of luck

I think i caught them before they could do much damage....thanks!

Neem products alone won't cut it believe me I've posted about these fuckers to many times to count now I have dubbed them "micro roaches" they survive and come back stonger believe me jump on them quick I don't know alot bout dro' but I put Mosquito Dunks in my soil I don't know if they will clog anything up but they're a bacteria called Bti, a product called Gnatrol contains it and is approved for hydro and use sticky traps to catch the flying females, use more then 1 product because they have several forms that need different treatments

I believe it probably works better in hydro than soil but get the sticky traps too! they have female "flyers" that look like fungus gnats those are the ones that keep the cycle going you can tell them from fungus gnats because gnats are easy to catch, root aphids they'll "see" you coming and try to evade/hide or fly away

Oops, n/m, I should have kept reading. Dunks haven't worked on aphids for me at all, it works great on the gnats, but the aphids are still there in the rootzone. I don't get many fliers, but the fuckers are still there. See em everytime I water.

You don't notice any damage or stunting to the plants from using Azatrol so liberally? I don't mind using it on new clones, but I'd be hesitant to use in my bloom room.

Well what i do is make five gallons of it, and top flood. It then gets diluted to reservoir for added protection. I am noticing it isnt real easy totally eliminating these guys. Every application knocks em waay back tho. That one flyer stays alive tho. The plants love this stuff after a foliar application. No stunting noticed.
