Room Temp, Growth issues?

So I'm currently growing one plant (as a trial and error phase b4 perchasing good seeds)

The sprout, which is 1 week and 1 day old - still hasn't fully devel/spread her secondary set of leaves.

Is that normal? Or is the sprout growing too slow?

Also I have it set up in my bedroom (no other place I can put it really...)
but I happen to be in the basement of the house, so the temp in the room is more like 68-72 degrees. Would that be preventing regular growth?

I am going to purchase some CFL lights (need a new light fixture aswell) and currently I have 3 18" florescents 15W each (weak, I know, but thats what I'm working with)
I also have a desk lamp I keep on the sprout to provide some heat --

There is a desk fan circulating the air constantly (keep it on at night) and as far as how much light, I usually turn everything on at about 8:30 am, and leave on for atleast 15-16 hours.

Any tips/advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thankx everyone

PS. They shouldn't call it a weed, it's so damn hard to grow properly. Holy Crap!

something is for sure wrong......even with low lighting it will grow and stretch before it finally fizzles out due to lack of light to break down sugars to grow properly. What kind of soil is it in? how often are you watering? the temps are fine.

Well I got unfertilized soil, peat moss and perlite (mixed my own)

The watering is probably what I'm fucking up the most. I've been giving her a little bit (like half a small glass) of distilled/filtered water-- but I haven't been consistantly water everyday due to the peatmoss retaining much humidity in the soil, I'm jus worried that I'm going to over water end up with root rot.

I have noticed a few flecks of brown on the underside of the embryo leaves, is that from dehydration? The sprout looks healthy apart from that, it's dark green embryo leaves and sec. leaves seem healthy enough (sorry I don't have a digital cam to upload pics, my web cam wouldn't capture the detail needed)

- Looking forward to your reply :)

well the problem might be over watering which already sounds like the root system is damaged....let the soil dry out, then water lightly. Maybe try getting some worm poop water at the nursery and add a drop of superthrive to it and mist it with that once a day to allow roots to recover.

try to keep a constant schedule for your plants (lights on/lights off so you dont fuck up the photoperiod. buy a timer for like $6 at walgreens, its very important....especially later when you wanna induce flowering

hahaha yeah so I just removed some top soil and dug around the sprout (she's already in a 12" planter) and stuck her outside in the sun. Hopefully I can save her. Thankx again for everything :)

if you have problems with sprouts, try starting them out in smaller cups or something. I like to start out in 16oz cups, easier to keep an eye out and watering is easier to detect.

well figured I would update this, and post what happened... I stopped watering, and the sprout didn't look very good... then I realized (pretty stupid of me to do) that I mixed in a lot of peat moss in the soil... so much so it could be throwing of the PH. I did an emergency transplant into plain soil, and did so without breaking any roots! I got a good look at them too-- they're not rotten-- they look healthy and white, so hopefully it will prove itself to be a true weed and rebound from this ordeal...

okay well another update, it has ben 4 days since my post-- and my sprout is doing great! I got a soil Ph tester kit from Cad. Tire and tested the soil she's in now, as well as the soil that I transplanted her out of. The soil she's in now, has a ph of 7-7.5, which my sprout loves apparently. The soil I took her out of tho, that was acidic, as I had suspected. Basically she has new growths showing now, and the leaves that were deformed and twig thin, now are getting thicker. It seems like she might make it. Just a thought for anyone else out there who has a sprout who isn't growing well/fast--- Check your Ph and don't over water!!!

Thankx for everyone's help who replied to this post.
