rookie needs advice

This is my first go around so I used some bag seeds from some really good bud. I planted them straight in the soil and most of them sprouted and look to be doing fine. I have been reading on here and am getting mixed signals. Some say that flouros are enough light and some say that during veg and flowering stages I need to upgrade. I have a closet set up and was not planning on more than four or five 4 ft. two bulb fixtures. Will this be enough to support three four foot plants, or do I need to upgrade? Any advice would really help.

You can def. use fleuros for the whole grow, it might benefit you too because of heat issues. If you plan on flowering them with fleuros, they wont grow as fast and the buds wont be as big.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I will probably upgrade when it comes time to flower them. How big should they be before it is ok to transplant them into their own separate containers? Right now they are about 5-7 inches tall.

they should be in 6'' pots at a minimum...and should always be in sepparate containers.

go ahead and do so, soon as you can.

If you do use fluorescents... make sure you keep them VERY VERY close to your plants.. adjust the lights daily if need be.. ZFluorescents can grow GREAT buds when they are kept 1 inch or less from the foliage..

Ok, i separated the plants and put them much closer to the fluorescents. Thanks for the advice. I couldn't keep all of them because of lack of space and had a tough time deciding which ones to keep. I read that males often grow faster than females in the beginning so I didn't necessarily pick the biggest, just healthiest. Is it too soon to be sure of the plants sex?

U can't really tell the plants sex for sure until they flower.I've heard u can tell by the leaves or how many braches, height, ect, ect, ect.Flowering is the best way to tell.

I've heard a million things about how to tell sex of a plant.Only one seemed reliable and that was to wait for the flowers.I went to this kid's house yester day and he thought that he could tell it was female because of how the leaves were.I corrected him on that and also had to tell him how to flower with the 12/12 cycle. It's like 3 or 4 feet tall, all bushed out, looks really nice, almost like a tree.He just didn't know how to do anything with it lol
I was drunk at the time but still managed to quote half the stuff u guys say in here.:joint:

this is another one for the cannabis myths thread. total bs. nd, i know you don't know that, that's why i'm telling you ;) nothing but love babe :D

Males generally grow faster and taller than females (of the same strain). The spacing between the nodes isgenerally farther apart (traits similiar to stretching). and finally, females usually showtheir sex in 14 days and as I recall male plants show their sex sooner (not sure 100% about this)..
I am having a brain fart right now.. but I am pretty sure it is the males that show their sex first...

These statements are only true when comparing lpants of the same strain..

I got various strains of bag seed growing, all came from really good stuff.I'm hoping they flower on their own by next month. If not I'm forcing it b4 the frost comes in late Sept/early Oct.Have 23 plants in all so I'm thinkin I'll have a decent harvest with decent smoke as well.
