Return to Chernobyl... The Golden Ticket

It’s been awhile since our release of this controversially named hybrid, we took some heat at first over the name. Thank goodness once people actually started growing it out the quality and potency outshined her slightly distasteful name. I never meant any harm BTW I just trying to conjure up a name that stood for something worse than a Trainwreck and that terrible nuclear accident came to mind. I thought it would be cool to re-visit the strain now that it is often featured in the jars and many dispensaries. I have seen and smoked many amazing Chernobyl samples and over time growers have given here favorite variations names to match the taste like the lime Slurpee cut or the Bloodwreck dominant variety. One such growers favorite that has caught my attention and the attention of the creator of Chernobyl, Dioxide and they call this cutting, “The Golden Ticket”. Not to confuse anyone this is not some new strain but simply a favorite female Chernobyl plant of a grower named Dirty Dan who started calling it that. I first heard about the amazing resin production from this plant last year and Dioxide has not stopped raving about it since. Seems Dan lost the cut and Dioxide had to go to some trouble to re locate her, this added to the legend of The Golden Ticket. I got the opportunity to visit a TGA grower who has been featured on my YouTube show “The Weed Nerd” who now grows and holds this cutting of Chernobyl, and photograph her so everyone could get a look. I was extra excited because this particular grower( Grower X) is testing a new pre packaged Super Soil and base mix that is based on my recipe and if it performs well I may not have to mix soil anymore. Grower X has been using my soil recipe for a few years and there is no one better to tell me how this new packaged soil performs. I did not take stills of his indoor gardens instead choosing to shoot a quick series of clips for "The Weed Nerd" show I mentioned. I did however take some stills of the plant just before harvest at 57 days in flowering and they came out really nice.

Grower X also shared some really nice cured flowers as well and as you can see they do actually have a "Golden" look to them. In my macro shots when you zoom in you can see the golden resin heads ( Trichome) delicately balanced on stalks. This golden resin is so abundant on the buds surface it gives the appearance of a sheen of gold. Chernobyl is well known for her resin production but even I was surprised at this particular female. The resin isn't just stacked on top of itself it completely covers all of the fan leaves in such numbers that the resin rails are literally stuck together like some sort of globulus glass zipper. The smell of the finished plant is a mix of lemons limes and a musty earthy smell I associate with Trainwreck. Our main goal when creating Chernobyl was to increase the resin production and bring more of the citrus smell out and it worked very well. I would rate this plant a medium producer I have seen larger Chernobyl's but one think I have noticed is plants that devote this much energy to resin production often give up some production. Conversely plants that produce enormous buds tend to produce less resin and be less potent. I will take a hash making monster like this any day and learn to train her to produce as much sugar coated bud as possible. While I was set up I also took some pictures of another plant called "Goat" the buds were huge I'm talking the size of small pineapples and the smell coming off the plant was insane. I smelled cheese and pineapple and also a kind of metallic smell very unusual to me. I was told it is not a Cheese hybrid but you sure could fool me. As I was taking down all the lights and things I use to take pictures Grower X gave me nice samples of the Chernobyl and Goat to take home and share and enjoy with MzJill. I can always judge cannabis better in my own environment and in my own time. The first thing you can't help notice about the dried flowers is the obvious bag appeal. I visit lots of MMC's and I have never seen anything this encrusted in the jars on their shelves so there is that. The smell of the bud is that of lemon hash and the scent is very strong, you can tell it has Trainwreck in it but it's so much more pungent. I sat down with a clear head and a clean bong to test this crazy looking bud and as soon as I started chopping it up the smell hit me. This is some really pungent weed smelling of limes and lemons but it is so smooth it kind of fools you. I smoked 3 bowls pretty quick and as I was preparing just a bit more it hit me, and hard I almost laughed out loud it came on so quick I actually felt a body rush and then it moved into my head. I was actually giggling for a bit as I did some video commentary on a live smoke test for The Weed Nerd show. It tasted so good I wanted more but I was pretty high so I actually waited for the buzz to develop more before having more. Five small bowls was about my limit and I enjoyed the rest of the afternoon completing this story really high but with what seems like pretty good focus. Jill was next for an afternoon session and sat next to me as I typed giving me her opinion. She liked the flavor thought it was sharp and astringent tasting on the inhale but really smooth on the exhale. She was surprised in fact and for someone who does Not like the lemon taste of JTR she enjoyed this bud and told me the high was very different from her normal daily smoke Vortex. More drug like she said and very strong, I tend to agree and I know why so many people like Chernobyl it is very powerful medicine but also really fun to smoke recreationally as well. While this story is about a special cutting it is not the first time I have seen females this resinated so just like on Willy Wonka there is certainly more than one golden ticket and it can be found in a pack of Chernobyl!

Excellent write up. It's always cool to have a story to go along with a smoke report. This makes me sad that I could not get Chernobyl on 4/20. I trust the 3d and ace will keep me busy for a while though.

Thanks for sharing.

After a few years here on RIU, these types of reports are my favorite thing to read Sub. This report, the smoke out with Chemdawg, and other stories you have written have been such a pleasure to read- :)
Awesome stuff!

My lime slurpee pheno sure looks a lot like the golden ticket. Took me a few 10 packs to find it. But then again I'm picky..
Dioxide & Sub have created something very special and my hat is off to you.
