Resourceful or Wishful Thinking? Ca and flushing

:hug:Good Morning World forgive my ignorance again but can I add eggshells/grinded coarsely to the soil/cocoa fiber to deliver calcium to the plants? I read that calcium is not one of the major important nutrients however it is part of the big picture. I appreciate all of your DIY techniques on the forum so I am wondering if anybody adds Ca themselves short of buying more...meters to measure and liquids to add. Pardon me for asking about the so-called flushing...but would watering with a smaller volume and more dilute mix of nutes lend towards more uptake by the roots(in the veg, new clonee stage) and less of a need to flush? This might beg the case for more frequent watering. I read about the waste to drain theory and I would assume that is for the plants in a small container that have roots on the bottom of the container and the WTD would ensure the roots are getting exposed to the nutes/liquid etc. :-| My intent, based on reading about everybody's desire to minimize the money spent on nutes/chemicals/additives etc is to minimize the potential for overwatering, overfertilizing, and for unnecessary flushing-wasting chemicals etc. Can anyone tell me how much Mg they add to their clonees(young newly cloned with new root systems) and during their veg stage? I bought a book however it doesn't mention growing with cocoa fiber so I have to extrapolate everything on my own. It also mentions Epsom salt which confuses the picture even more if people flush to remove excess sodium.....why add it if it is a reason why people flush or is it? I am using cocoA/B and I have read how important the Mg is...but I am experimenting on my own when I add the Mg....I feel like I need to take a class in chemistry and set up a lab for all these different scenarios that I read about. Thank you for your replies and I hope you have a great May 2013. -Marianna:-D
