Reserva Privada Sour Diesel grow

Greetings! Though this is not my first grow, this is my first journal entry on any site. I've grown a few varieties over the last couple years from mystery bag seed to very indica to very sativa. I'm more of a sativa lover and have spent a good deal of time reading this forum and others to get a good idea of what varieties I might like to try. One that I've seen pop up over and over that I've been dying to try is ecsd. However, since I don't live in a cannabis friendly area, I've got nowhere to acquire a clone of the real deal. I haven't seen very many detailed threads anywhere on whether any of the seeds available give the clone much justice. I decided to give the Reserva Privada fem seeds a shot. I popped 3 of them back on November 12th. Up until this point there hasn't been much to say about the grow. One out of the 3 popped had a seed casing stuck on it in the beginning. I waited a few days and when it didn't fall off on its own I had to try gently removing it. The next week or so I wasn't sure she was going to recover but she did and has turned out to be a very vigorous plant! Because of the way she stretched when the seed casing was on her, and the way she wanted to stick towards the ground, I decided to use her as my first specimen for training. I've basically just been keeping her low to the ground with metal stakes. Every time the main stem starts to reach towards the lights I pin it down with another stake. I've still got her in veg, have taken a few clones of her, and am aiming to make her do a complete circle along the bottom of the pot before I put her into flower. As far as the other two seeds I popped, they were put into flower on December 24. They have both grown well up until this point, haven't noticed any nutrient sensitivity, and they are definitely tall and stretchy as I expected them to be. Unfortunately this morning upon examining them I found male preflowers at several nodes on one of the plants. I saw what could have been calyx structures as well, but no hairs so I do not know if it was a hermie or I somehow got a male seed in my mix. In either case, I chopped it up and tossed it in the wood stove. I have no need for a plant that is going to herm on its own. The other one has calyxes all over it and no sign of a male flower so far. She is a very tall plant already, so the next few weeks may be challenging as she reaches closer and closer to the light. I topped her once in veg and also tied her back early on in anticipation of the stretch. So far, I believe that's all the information I have to share about this strain, but now that one is in flower, the real fun begins.

As far as my setup:
-4x4 cheap grow tent (I think I purchased it through ledwholesalers on amazon, its 3 or more years old so I forget!)
-400w HPS (again, nothing fancy but its served me well in the past!)

And that's it! I have a basic homemade charcoal filter made out of pvc and running with a 4inch processor fan to help with odor. It helps a little, but seeing as how I live in the country with no neighbors too close and my basement sealed off pretty tight, I'm not overly concerned with smell.

Other plants that may pop up in the pics include a Super Silver Haze and Neville's Haze (Greenhouse), Red Cherry Berry and Acapulco Gold (Barneys) and a Malawi Gold as well as an unknown cross from a friend's grow last year (we believe it to be from an Exodus Cheese pollinated by a hermie Critical Jack). I don't have journals going for these other plants because I've seen plenty of information on them out there already. I just wanted to share some experience with the Reserva Privada Sour Diesel since I don't see an incredible amount of information out there and I'd like to help change that.

Again, this is my first journal, feel free to comment, lend advice, whatever!
Enjoy!!!

I forgot to add soil and nutrient information. These girls were started in happy frog and repotted with ocean forest when they were large enough. Since then they've been given fox farms nutes and a foliar spray of Nirvana twice a week.

Here are some better pics of the Sour Diesel girls.

This one is still in my veg cabinet under cfls. She is doing fantastic and has preflowers starting to pop up everywhere. I'm going to veg her for as long as I can (my flower tents are a bit full) and then pop her into a larger container and put her into flower in a few weeks.

This girl is about a week and a half into flower now. She is doing very well and stands just over 30 inches now. To give you an idea of how fast she is stretching, she was topped a week before she went into flower. The two branches that grew from the topping point are over a foot long at this point, and they were less than an inch when I topped her.

Nice! The leaves on my Sour D's look like yours with them big blades. I thought they're gonna be more sativa looking.

oh man are you going to be one happy parent when you harvest. but i will tell you that theyre going to get veryyy stretchy as you already see. i live in a non medical state as well, but an ECSD alternative is jedi kush from cali connection.

im really interested to see how the RP SD's turn out since im running RP Sour kush next to cali conn 818 HB fem (SD x tahoe OG not SFV OG)

Now im not an expert, but i do just fine growing so lemme advise you to keep away from GHS nevilles haze, its completely garbage and will be 18-20weeks and its NOT really nevilles haze, its francos haze. the plant polinated by the hermie will produce 50% hermies "statistically".

Thanks dgaf, I'm really anxious to try this sour d. I've never had the real deal since I can't get clones around here, so I hope this lives up to the name! I'm cautiously optimistic, as its growth patterns seem to match what I've seen as far as the clone, but I've read carried smoke reports.
As far as the Neville haze, this is the second bean of that that I've sprouted. I grew one from the same pack around this time last year. It finished in about 16 weeks, produced almost 4oz from one plant, and was one of the finest I've ever smoked. Not trying to disagree with you at all, who knows if this one will wind up the same. I have read some bad things about green house, and their super silver haze was a big disappointment. It grew easy, wasn't nute sensitive, and gave me a pretty good yield, but the smoke just sucked.

The sour d is really coming along nicely though, just hit two weeks into flower today and she's got pistils showing all over the place. I may have to tie her back a little more, she is getting tall! More pics to follow later this week!

Been a busy week, have barely had a half hour a day to spend gardening and the girls have been very thirsty!
The SD in flowering is two weeks and a few days into flower and already showing very nice development. I've heard there are a few different phenos found in RPs batch, and this girl to me seems to be showing some pretty good flower development early on. I hope this is a good sign :) .Here is a pic of her

It seems to me that her stretch has definitely slowed down since the first week of flower, She's just under 34 inches now. The Plant that I have in veg is coming along very nicely. I've pinned her down twice since last week and I think that's all I'm going to do anymore. I've taken 4 clones total from her, and the training resulted in 5 nice sized main branches shooting up plus the main stem. Two nights ago I supercropped all of the branches except the main stem, and except for one branch they all are doing well. One branch snapped too easily and was left on by nothing much but a thread, so it had to go. I'm going to keep her in veg another week and hopefully my berry ryders will be done and free up some room in the one tent. Here are a few pics of her.

I guess that's about all for updates right now. The only other thing I did this week was take some pollen from one of my Malawi Gold plants that turned out being male, and pollenated a branch on each of the plants I have going. Should be fun to see if anything new and exciting springs from any of those seeds sometime later on.

Quick update only somewhat related to the RP girls. I've had an ebb and flow setup with two Berry Ryders and a Bell Pepper plant sitting in my one flower tent for a while now, and I've been waiting and waiting for them to finish so I could finally put the trained and super cropped Sour Diesel into the flower tent. I took them down today and moved her over, that hydro setup was taking up too much room. I'm a noob at hydro, tried an ebb and flow last year with a single Super Silver Haze with a fairly good yield, but I won't do it again, at least not with two plants in the same system. I had issues all along with those two, the main reason being that even though they were the same batch of seeds, they seemed to like completely different ph levels. If it was a little too high one would suffer, and a little low the other one would suffer, it was very hard to find a good middle ground. In any case, they are all done now, but I have this bell pepper plant which just began flowering, and I've wanted to experiment with vegetables hydroponically, so I took it out of the system with as much of the root ball as I could and whipped up a drip system with a bucket and some parts I had laying around. She seems good so far, but we'll see how it progresses.

Well The Trained SD is now in the tent, and the one in flower is doing fantastic. I'll have an update with some new pics later this week, that's all for now.

Here's a few pictures of the RP Sour Diesel girls. The big girl who has been in flowering for 4 weeks now is really starting to show a good deal of bud and trich development. As you can see below. I'm not an expert photographer, but my camera has a few settings to play with, maybe someone experienced in this field could give me a few hints? I've never had much luck getting good close up shots of buds. My camera typically takes nice pictures of everything else, but I think the reflection of the trichs throws something off, not sure how to get really nice shots of the buds like I've seen in other people's journals. Below is the best shot I've been able to take.

sd3_1-22-13.jpgsd3bud_1-22-13.jpg

On another note with this girl, she is just over 40" tall from soil to the top of the highest bud. It seems she is still stretching a bit but it's definitely slowed since the first two weeks. I've been feeding her with a ratio of 2tsp of tiger bloom per gallon of water and tried to kick it up a teaspoon this past week. She showed a little sign of burning at the tips so I flushed it out and will keep it at 2 tsp. The only other thing worth mentioning is that this girl has begun to smell just slightly. It is not overpowering, but its definitely there, and it seems like it has the potential to be very stinky. When I put my nose right up to the bud it's a very complex aroma... very skunky, with subtle hints of a citrus aroma. Definitely the smelliest girl I've got in flower right now!

As for the trained Sour Diesel, she is now a week and a few days into flower. She looks great, all the sites I supercropped have healed well and she is stretching nicely. Here is a photo of her.

I also fed her with the same mix of nutes and she showed slight burning as well. I guess that's all for now. Until next time...

That tall sour d looks epic man. Nice job. That's going to be straight dank.

Thanks Mongo, I appreciate that! I'm very happy with the way she is coming along. I wouldn't expect to see this much bud development at 4 weeks on a 10+ week plant, so I'm very hopeful for a sweet harvest :bigjoint:

Hello again! The girls are coming along very nicely. The tall girl is a little over 5 weeks into flower. Her flowers are starting to plump up nicely and here and there if you look closely you'll see a few pistils starting to change color ever so slightly. The smell level has stayed about the same, I really do enjoy it though. It takes me back to my teenage years, it definitely smells similar to something I've had in the past! Here is a pic of her just taken...

The shorty is coming along nicely as well. I'm anxious to see the difference in the end considering the extra time I put into this girl. Here is a pic of her.

I guess that's all for now, See you next week with some new pics!

Hello all,
To any who were following this thread, I'm very sorry I disappeared. My laptop took a shit on me a few weeks ago, and while there was probably a way to keep updated with my phone, I'm not very good at typing on those things. I just got a new computer this past week and finally got around to playing around with it a bit today. My grow is officially done as of this morning. I do not have many pictures to share at the moment because I've got to take some time to go back through my camera and do some sorting. But I wanted to take a few minutes and update this grow with whats been going on with this grow. Let me start with the first plant which finished a few weeks ago.

This is one of the upper buds I harvested from the taller girl.
sd3.jpg

This picture doesn't do the plant justice and I'll try to get some better shots of her up in a followup update. This plant really amazed me with how much the buds just kept swelling throughout the entire flowering phase. I have seen pictures of buds wider than soda cans online before, but this plant is the first one I've ever grown that turned out like that. I took her down on 3/14 so in the end it was about 11 weeks she spent in flower I think. Somewhere around the 6th week of flower a buddy of mine lent me his 600w HPS light to finish up my grow, and I think that was a big contributor in the size of these buds. The size is a bit deceptive though. They seem so fat and dense, yet they are a lot lighter and airier than they appear. In total I pulled just over 2oz off of this plant. On both of these plants I ran into some problems with getting the ratio of nutes and waterings just right. They seemed to burn easily but back off just a hair and I'd get signs of deficiencies. Mainly N deficiency, I had yellowing leaves very early on in flower. I personally think its the Fox Farm nutes, I've had issues on previous grows with N deficiency towards the end of flower, but most of my plants in the past had shorter flower cycles so the deficiency would pop up around when I was about to start flushing anyways. But with longer flower plants like these, it wasn't good to have bright yellow leaves around 6 or 7 weeks. Whatever the specific problem was, I did my best to correct it along the way and I am happy with the results. Now as far as the smoke: This lady had about a week of dry and a week of cure so far, so I don't have a completely finished product as of yet, but of course I gave her a try :-o. As time went on with the grow she lost a good deal of the really stinky skunky fuelly smell she had in the beginning. Now that its dried the smell is there a bit, but not very strong. The taste is still a little bit harsh but it is a thick coating smoke with a bit of a fuelly taste and a hint of citrusy berry. The high is fairly strong and comes on quick. Most of the buds I've smoked over the years have a creeper effect to some extent, and you may not feel the full effect right away. This bud is not like that. Every hit I take I can feel the effects of almost instantly. It has a very couchy effect, and so far each time I've tried some in the morning I end up taking a nap midday. I'd like to come back and give a more detailed smoke report once she has some more cure time, but for now there is a bit of information on her.

Now for the other girl:
purplediesel.jpg
Again, this photo does not do this plant justice and I'll get some more up of her once I go through my camera. This is the short girl who I trained and supercropped. After seeing the bud sizes on the first diesel, I was very anxious to see how this one would develop considering the added techniques I used on her. Unfortunately she did not produce the massive buds I had seen on the first plant. She did however provide a few surprises. You can see from the picture that towards the end of flowering she started showing some very beautiful shades of reds and purples.... even a bit of blue towards the center of some of the leaves. While the other plant seemed to lose the strong smell, this one's scent got even stronger towards the end of flowering and finished with a very pungent fuelly berry type smell. I wish I could tell you a bit more about her taste or high, but I actually just chopped her down this morning. I'm not expecting to harvest much more than an ounce off of her, but with the smell and the denser trichome development compared to the first plant, I'm really keeping my fingers crossed for some good bud.

I'm not big on using the internet on my phone so I haven't really been on this site since my laptop took a crap on me. It was nice to see there was some interest in this grow while I was away. I'm sorry I wasn't able to keep up with this one, but stay tuned. Once I've got everything dried and cured within the next few weeks I'll followup with some more detailed smoke reports on both phenos, some better pics, and I'll throw up some pics of some of the other ones I grew this time around (along with the purple diesel I took down this morning I took down a Malawi Gold that has got to be over 4oz) Today marks the end of my cannabis growing season, this time of year I start to focus on my tomatoes and peppers and my other veggies for the outdoor garden. But I've got a clone of each of these plants, plus a number of strain crosses I made with the male Malawi Gold I grew this year, so hopefully next fall I'll have another journal or three going.

Peace

awesome job man! how long did it flower for from preflower? like 10 weeks?

edit: i see that it went for 11 weeks. good job waiting. im 8.5 weeks into my diesel..and i cant wait any longer haha. i dont have sour though, so i dont have that extra hhawaiian gene. its chemdawg x super skunk x northern lights.

are you counting 11 weeks from preflower or from the 12/12 flip?

my tall diesel also burns easily, but my short one can handle a good amount.
