Researching my first hydro or soilless grow

Hey guys, I started out growing with House and Garden with satisfactory results. I now am growing organically, but was pondering the idea of trying a single waterfarm (for example) or using my brick of coir (its 650g idk how much that turns out to be.

Questions/Comments

1. I have a cheaper milwaukee ph pen (and the liquid color tester for confirmation) plus a HM ppm/EC pen will these work well enough?

2. Im very lost when it comes to hydro, can I build my own setup pretty easily?

All in all, I just want to try a form of hydro/soilless and possibly use House and Garden Aqua Flakes

Coir would be hydro. If your EC pen and pH pen are accurate they should be just fine so long as they are calibrated. Also investigate a 5-gallon DWC. Easy and cheap to build from Wal Mart or Home Depot for most of it. DWC yields the biggest plants.
