Republicans Don't Care if Trump Shoots Someone on Fifth Ave

Everybody votes in their own self interest. Always

What people value and identify as in their self interest is up to them. As much as I disagree with Flaming Pie, I have no doubt she votes the manner she decides is in her own best interest. The faux news and right wing voting recipient are a team.

Propaganda can harden and maybe sway people who want to be convinced. Does propaganda work on people who are in opposition to the idea that the propagandist is promoting? Some say not.

Why Does Propaganda Work? Some People Want It
For propaganda to be effective, it requires submissive subjects. As Professor Nicholas O’Shaughnessy wrote, propaganda is a “co-production in which we are willing participants.”

Sanders supporters got bit by fake news propaganda last year. Really, really bad. They haven't recovered. Probably won't ever.

Bernie Sanders’ Campaign Faced A Fake News Tsunami. Where Did It Come From?

An excerpt:

Cowling, a retired postal worker, said some of her Facebook group members were ready to believe the bogus news links. “People were so anti-Hillary that no matter what you said, they were willing to share it and spread it,” she said. “At first I would just laugh about it. I would say, ‘C’mon, this is beyond ridiculous.’ I created a word called ‘ridiculosity.’ I would say, ‘This reeks of ridiculosity.’”

But Cowling got pushback. She was called a “Hillbot” and a Trump supporter. She ended up removing dozens of members who refused to stop pushing conspiracy theories. “I lost quite a few friends,” she said.

One guy went through a very concise step by step exercise of documenting how one fake news story propagated through the bernie supporter social media mill. His reward? He was booted from the group.

The message that got him booted?

Guys, I sincerely love you. I love your passion. I love your fire. I love all of that. But when 400 people are circle-jerking clickbait links in between wondering how Hillary Clinton is behind the FEMA Earthquake drill that happens on several days with one of them being primary day?

Holy shit.

You are allowing yourselves to be manipulated. Through the practice of taking anything that agrees with your opinion at face value, actively refusing to believe anything but what agrees with your narrative and following that up with blatant disregard for doing two minutes of searching to verify the information: you become the myopic Trump supporter that you so vocally loathe.

Is anyone aware of what the propaganda was about, to divide us?:

Clinton is murdering people and using body doubles to replace them in her master plan to take over the world.

No offense, but if you believe something like that, your mind is gone..seriously.

But it does prove we haven't evolved very much.

Actually, it should have read, "Trump shoots a Democrat on 5th Ave. and no one cared".......I tend to agree.

LOL

The fake news and propaganda discussed in the article I linked to was delivered by people who had a financial interest in people clicking on the links. The headlines were deliberately written to catch the eye and imagination of the targeted audience. At the first level, this was a simple act of greed. The question that I'm asking now is where did the money come from that paid for those ads? Why were those advertisers willing to chuck money -- a lot of it -- down that hole? My suspicion is that the intent was to manipulate. Beyond that, what was the intent of that manipulation? I can't go farther because I don't want to go down a rabbit hole of what ifs.

The effect as described in the article -- I've seen some if it here -- was to make a sizable fraction of Berners reject the news that what they were regurgitating is false. Get angry at the bearer of the news and even shun the truthsayer. Same thing happens to Trump's supporters. Pie is still hooked on some pedo conspiracy by the left. Mouth breathing stupid as it is, she's dedicated to getting the word out on this. It's all part of radicalization that's taking place, left and right.

Plausibility. Every story can be accepted if something about it is plausible. One detail is all that is required for simpletons to say "I'll buy that." Then they repeat it like it was real. Then it becomes their conviction, and it spreads. That's why propaganda is so successful. It's solely because of the gullibility of simple minds, and the lack of cognitive thinking.

Political propaganda is even more successful because it becomes a reason for these simpletons to sound like they're smart ...

and every simpleton wants others to think they are smart.

I figure you've seen about as much as anybody from your perch at the poltics forum. Not asking about sides, just about volume and numbers buying into it. Is it worse now than a few years ago? Is the left becoming more radicalized than before? Maybe I am asking about a side. I've seen propaganda at work on the right for a long time but perhaps fooled myself about the left.

You and others here have been pounding on me lately for raising that very question.

But both sides have a narrative and neither cares if it squares with the truth on the ground, as long as it advances THEIR agenda.

Still hung up on corrupt democrats but can't name one? I mean legal standard for corrupt? I've asked many times who they are. Right now, Sanders is the only one I know of who is under investigation.

Same goes with repeated and factually false claim that "Democrats oppose Universal Healthcare".

Do you spend a lot of time on Facebook communing with other Sanders supporters? If so, have you seen those click bait links that the author talked about? I've seen you and pad become more radicalized over the past year and wondering what has been going on. You've certainly developed a penchant for repeating a party line that is false in many of it's details.

Then we'll agree to disagree.

I'll even take the blame for being unable to fully articulate my concerns.

That said, I have real trouble with the notion that the Democratic Party has been fully truthful.

Two people can see the same facts and decide differently what they mean.

I claim you repeat falsehoods as evidenced by your repeated "corrupt democrats" and "opposed to Universal healthcare" claims. I can't agree to disagree about falsehoods.

The facts:

There are no real corruption investigations or charges on any Democrats in office in DC. I include Sanders in this.

Democrats are on record of writing, sponsoring and voting for bills that would have enacted Universal healthcare coverage. Republicans are on record of opposing and stopping those bills.

Failing enacting universal healthcare laws, Democrats have expanded access to cover the poor. To the point of eroding their leadership position in DC, Republicans are doing their utmost repeal everything Democrats have done to provide coverage for the poor.

Do you agree that these are facts?
