Replacing my drip system. Which way to go?

I do the same. :) Maybe I am just paranoid but I think that it must look suspicious when I get rid of too much garbage, the coco adds another 120 litres extra to my waste. Do you grow aero or DWC?
Last grow was a CAP Flow & Gro, one before that was an aero. Switched to Flow & gro because I wanted to try a vertical set up.

You can have redundancy in every kind of hydro system....Two water pumps and cycle timers for flood and drain, nFt and aero. if one goes out the other will keep your plants alive. Huge air stones in the bottom of each rdwc buckets so if the inline pump dies They are still normals dwc, plant lives again. An 8000 watt generator can be installed to your home for power outs. Float valves on Rez, GrowHause doser for each Rez will keep ppm and ph in check. It's not hard.

So is loosing a whole crop to a cycle timer breaking and plants not gettin water for a day or two.

I understand what your saying, everyone's finances are different. If you have the money though, to not potentially save your entire harvest for a few hundred bucks would be silly.

Sounds more like a few grand to me. On my scale, it's cheaper to lose the crop.

Skunkd0c: Thank you for your input. Pure NFT is an interesting option. What size of trays do you recommend? My growing area is limited to the grow tent...
you could make or buy 1 large tray to fill all of your tent or use a number of smaller ones
the smaller NFT trays that are sold are around 20liter something like 1.5ft long 1ft wide

i think its a big advantage to build a system that allows you to control how the roots grow and organize , don't just allow them to ball up or grow in clumps ,it does not have to be NFT although nft works very well this way
you could use low pressure or high pressure aero,
i do not like using a system that keeps the roots totally submerged under water

roots spread thinly and evenly over a large surface area all have better access to nutes and oxygen especially when many of the roots sit in air also
as with aero and to a lesser degree NFT

peace
