Religion when left unchecked has led the forefront of many an ignorant campaign. To hit close to home, many people still oppose gay marriage in the US. In a country we're we are supposed to be free the religious people of this country, many who hold power in high offices, look down upon their fellow countrymen and condemn them for a sexual choice.

Religion has lead parents to ignore sick children and die.

Religion caused the most tragic terror attack in quite some time. (9/11)

I believe that if you cannot moderate yourself you have no business being religious. Dogma is intoxicating and you'll be in deep if you don't check yourself and will be wondering why society seems to be crumbling around you...it's because you're retarded and believe in magic sky people.

Surely, religion has caused misery for hardship. But so has everything, right? A lot of people has lost their lives in the name of democracy and freedom. More importantly, a lot of people have fallen victim to military and economic violence legitimised by reference to principles of freedom. The incursions into Iraq has cost hundreds of thousands of lives, ruined another couple of million and continue to haunt the region to this day. Westerners preferably abuse the ideals of freedom and democracy for political- and economic gain, whereas ISIL merely exploits religion.
I believe we're at an impasse. We can't resolve these conflicts until we recognise the faults of our political and economic systems; faults that feed anti-Western sentiment and disgust for the ideals that the West supposedly embraces. We make it all to easy for corrupt imams and politicians to convince their constituencies of the inadequacies of liberal ideals. Anyways, my point is that any such ideas can be - and are - exploited. It's not that religion is inherently evil; it's that people are insecure fucks... Francis Fukuyama put it well in his book 'The End of History and The Last Man'.
