Before I make my purchase, i wanted to ask what seems to be everyone's reflector of choice. There's so many options, how do I know what i need?

i use mylar (which is expensive) and flat white paint. a lot of people use space blankets they r a lot cheaper i think e-bay is the best place to find em cheap

are you talking about a hood or reflective material? i like to use astro-foil. it's a bit expensive, but lasts forever. hoods, super sun 2.

sorry, i meant hoods...not reflective wall material, i have mylar.. i'm just looking to upgrade my cfl to hps

Depends on what size area you are trying to illuminate, the wattage of your lamp,how many plants you'll be growing, and how large those plants will be. A small reflector like the daystar or supersun II is good for illuminating a decent, medium size area but penetrates really well. A reflector like the raptor or magnum xxl is good for covering a huge area full of small plants. It spreads all its lumens over a large area, thus lacking in penetration power. If your looking for a happy medium between spread and penetration I would suggest something like the radiant or blockbuster. The blockbuster truly is the perfect reflector for a 4x4 area.

400 watt hps more than likely... Maybe a 600. Closet is 4.5 by 5.5, I figure the sweet spot to be roughly 3 by 3. Gives me room to grow, plus room for stuff like fans and ducting and what not.

I run a hydrofarm Radiant, IMO it is perfect for the 4x4 with awesome penetrating power, they make them in both air cooled and not cooled to fit your application. I have a link to a site that sells them for $100 plus shipping if you are interested.

Sun System Yield Master II Supreme 6 inch WITHOUT air cooling or using the glass lens cover and I still get it 6 inches from my canopy.
My yields are in my sig.

It's really about effecient air movement and cooling.
Ppl get carried with ducting and multiple bends.
THEN they use the wrong kind of ducting and yet still are oblivious to the ambient heat the ducting is putting off in their grow rooms/tents.
Prior to wrapping my SEMI-RIGID ducting with insulated "R" rated pipe wrap, it gave off temps of 92F+ !!
After wrapping it, it's a cool 79F normally.
The only things you should want IN your tent/cabinet, if you grow in one, that gives off heat is your light(s) and oscillating fan(s). Air pumps are okay depending on size.
Everything else should placed outside the tent/cab, including the intake and exhaust fans if you want better heat control.
Just my 2 cents.......................

I really like CAP's Lumenaire hood it seals up really well and puts off a good footprint for a 3x3 of 4x4 area. It is pretty cheap too.

i currently use a 600w in a cooltube but am upgrading to a SUN SYSTEMS 6" BLOCKBUSTER.
I would have chosen the MAGNUM XXXL but it wont fit in my closet efficiently enough for my ducting as i run a sealed aircooled system, as in no grow room air passes through my lighting rig it has its own cool air intake to help temps be more controllable .

I do like those magnum's. I have a gl120 and I still have a hard time with my lumenaire because I use that insulated big a** six inch ducting. I just barely fits through my port holes. Thats the main reason I went with the Growlab instead of Secret Jardin. Sorry if I'm off topic a little bit.

The Sun Systems - Super Sun 2 is awesome it has 4 angled sides and air-flow is great! .. Defo my reflector of choice
I would have gone with the Sun Systems - Blockbuster but due to the width of my cab the Sun Systems - Super Sun 2 was perfect!! (Cab size :- 2' X 4' X 7') - STELTHY

You could also buy a 6 inch flange kit and make your own hole.

If you check my room I'm using a horizontal vented HPS hood that was basically a no namer found for as cheap as they come.. honestly this thing is all the horsepower, just slightly less frills- it wasn't perfect build quality, but it was good enough and does its job well.
That said, I've been getting into vertical arrangements so I also wanna suggest cooltube style "reflectorless" setups too. Obviously if you can eliminate the reflector from the design you wont have any reflector-loss from your light
As for brand- just make sure the product is the specifications you're looking for and dont worry too much about it. Idk maybe the elderwise will tell you the high end equipment has a gain- for me the difference from not having 600w HID to having it was enough to make me happy, and my budget lived to tell the tale..
