Red Hairs

my first outdoor plant was ugly. raggedy spider like red hairs all over. long too. it was harvested when there were some red hairs but alot of white as well.
outdoor plants 2 and three from this fall, had mostly white hairs when harvested. the hairs when dried looked "normal" not ugly and heavy. very tastey weed.
the last 2 indoor girls had lots and lots of white hairs. they were plump. same genetics as one of the outdoor girls. lots of really pretty orange hairs covered in crystals. also tastey tastey smoke.
i'm new to growing but not smokn so i was wondern what is the deal with red hairs? i have brasil growing and most of the buds have so many thick white hairs they look like cotton plants

the hairs are call pistils. their purpose is to catch pollen out of the air, which would then produce a seed in the calyx ( the pods that the pistil grows from). the pistils start off thicker and white. then they turn red as the bud matures. normally most of the hairs are red when the bud is ready for harvest, with few or no white hairs. u should not use pistil color as an indicator of bud ripeness. only the trichomes will tell u if the bud is ready for harvest

thanks apb, i got that pistil part. i harvest when it looks ripe to me. i have blue trichs right now so i don't think i will use those as a gauge. i guess they are just of different quality depending on strain as well. seems to be a big different in the "quality" of them

blue? thats awesome. i wish i could see that

i know right. they are blue. don't know if we are maybe seeing the trichs look blue thru some blue in the leaf matter or what but had the nephew look at it last night as well and he said yep there they are LOL
one day i will get one of those macro cameras.
