recycling promix ????

So I recycled my promix on my last couple of grows because of $$ and after flushing the nutes are washed away. Anyway my question is does anybody else do this? For how long? I'm tossing all the old stuff after this next one comes down in a week or so and starting with fresh promix but was just curious if anyone else does this and any input would be great. Thanks

Alot of people do it actually. Its called amending the soil. Some will pasturize their soils and ad nutrients (composts teas etc).

I use sunshine mix #4 and it is currently on grow #37 I have been re-using the same bale for 5 years. Boiling water is your friend :)

Damn! 5 years!! Well that's encouraging news. Do you have a issue with the roots and such? Have you noticed any negative effects of recycling? The boiling hot water to kill any bad bacteria I assume.

Why not just spend the 12 dollars on a new bag? Is saving twelve bucks worth an afternoon of picking out roots and boiling some mud? I dont disagree with anybody who does this, but it wouldnt be for me i feel my time is more valuable than that.

You do make a valid point and I also agree with you about the time and mess. It is not necessarily a technique that I have adopted don't get me wrong.

To breakdown the roots I've read about people using Grow More Bio-Cozyme (sp?), or similar enzyme products.

I'm with chernobe, I don't have any desire to conserve my soil. I've considered reusing the soil from culled males. It's not grown in for long. I figure that percentage of soil mixed into fresh soil wouldn't be a problem (wouldn't require a lot of preperation).

If i did real organic living soil I'm sure I'd put it back into the compost.

I've been recycling my soil for years. It gets better each round. Farmers have been doing it forever.. Each round after I chop. I top dress a layer of vermicompost (compost / worm castings) and water the pot with compost tea's and seed sprout enzyme tea's over the span of a few weeks. By then all of the roots have broken down. Then replant new plants into those same pots. Those pots of soil, have a balanced colony of microbes, enzymes, bacteria, fungi. - living organic soil. I don't use any bottled nutes either. 100% natural organic. Buying new soil every round is a huge waste of money. Having to re-establish living soil every round as well......
