RDWC setup (thoughts opinions)

Its always been a double edge sword with rdwc

Plants grow fastest when their roots are warmer
But this decreases 02

So people found a happy number of 70-72

Then people built systems that didnt move o2 to the roots well enough blamed their lack of o2
Then proclaimed that they needed lower temps to raise the oxygen level

Which i DID help because since they had flow problems the slight increase made up for the lower temps.

In my point of view if they had the o2 in the root zone moving well enough they could actually use the plants higher metabolism at 72 degrees.

But im not a scientist so you may want to cross check my information:)

Lol i couldnt its 3 degrees bud

Now if you where sitting at 75- 77 like i am i would suggest a chiller or some other method ha ha

But i refuse to pay to cool
I've managed to keep my temps in check so far. But I also keep my house between 65 and 66, during the winter, so I'm sure that's helping.

Im going to try running at these temps next run without hydrogaurd to see if it gets gross lol
I haven't used that. Lady grow I had some slime, but not too bad. This time I don't have any, but I'm not that far in. I'm paying a lot more attending to my water temps this time though.

Well i didnt have any problems in the first place

But i kinda created them by switching from a semi organic nute to salt based

I have 2 4 site rdwc setups and 3 single bubblers going .

So i tested running sterile with bleach in the bubblers first .

Intant SLIME so i grabbed hydroguard to fix it.

And i have been running it since.

But i think ill be just fint without the hydroguard on the next run because i wont have any kelp and humice build up in my roots lol

But if temp and light proofing where truly critical my plant in the coffee creamer container woulda been dead month ago :)

But if temp and light proofing where truly critical
i'd think about it this way:

my hot rod runs best with 91 octane. does it run on 88? sure. but max performance at 91.

what if a few degrees meant a few more oz's in the harvest? then it's totally worth it.

Yes

But your plant has a higher metabolism at 72 degrees then 65 you can find the science on this.

Basically what im saying is you ARE running a low octane when not pushing your roots to the highest temp they can take :)

Again do levels high enough to sustain plant growth is easy to attain.

Getting that o2 deep in your wad of roots is the problem most of the time.

If you think about the roots like a plant that is upside down

A plant can deplete co2 around the leaves quite fast hence the need for circulation fans and air exchange.

The roots are no different they deplete the o2 lvls around them quickly and need proper flow to have constant access or a bigger air gap at the top.

This is why i usually let my airstonez get burried in the mass if roots in my standard bubblers

look up kratky method
No air

And basically no rez changes just top ups

Granted where not growing tomatoes but still the point is there :)

NO. cooler water avoids problems no matter what compared to warmer. 77 & 67 are drastically different levels for DO. You dunno what yer talkin bout mate.
