I was thinking that same thing just looking at it but with free shipping and the price being 100$ less than say timber I went with rapid led....maybe sometime down the line I can swap out the heat sink and spread it out.

Yeah, I'm one of the rare, fortunate RIU members that happens to live within a 20 minute drive from Timber. Good luck with your light - it'll be a beast in a small space.

Thats sick you live near stores like that...it's just been legalized here so itll be a min before we get stores like thay.

Thats what I'm hoping. Small space but still strong...they didn't have the 3500k cobs so I went with 5000 but my tent is 4x4 so I'll probably need to buy another down the line on the opposite side of the spectrum.

Thanks for your input though. It's calming to hear feedback from someone who knows a bit about the topic. The people on my team are smokers not growers and they dont like talking about lights and Nutes and schedules lol I was having anxiety attacks wondering if I bought an ok kit or not and they are complaining about me killing the buzz with my long words snd paranoia but your comment is pretty much what I thought would be one of the few drawbacks

It's not a store. It's the warehouse/office where they assemble everything. I can drive over, which obviously eliminates the shipping cost. Plus there's an In-N-Out right across the street from Timber. Win, win.
Whats an in-n-out? Lol

And is your avatar the true hero of karate kid?

Ooo we don't have those around here.

And in that case it's an honor master Lawrence. You were great in karate kid and in how I met your mother lol

Alright alright allllriiiiiiiiight....

Well the box showed up this morning. I assembled my first light lol and I got it hung up. I'm new to the whole diy cob thing so I'm positive I could have done a little better with the wiring but w.e I can fix it later...

no soldering just a screw driver and a wire cutter was needed. Pics to come

All the pieces laid out

20170110_131129.jpg
The heat sink, enclosure, and plexiglass cob cover.
20170110_132003.jpg
Lined everything up first... than heat paste stuff....

then screws with rubber washers..

Came with tons of extra screws and what not...

put three in each slot
20170110_135319.jpg
All wired up and screwed in + to -

20170110_140627.jpg
Screw in fan and ran wires down hole on the left...
20170110_142324.jpg
Fan wired with wago clips...came with 3 wago solderless clips and 3 wire nuts so the power cord got the wire nuts...fan got wago...driver to led got one of each... can't really tell but I hooked up a red wire to the negative led terminal and a black to positive which almost messed me up when I went to connect those to the driver

20170110_150101.jpg
All hooked up and running... one of the plastic wires fell on top of one of the cobs ( like I said I know I could have wired it better I just don't know how ) and within a min I was smelling burning plastic... caught it quick though. Moved it out of the way... pretty dam bright.

6in x 20in 250w

Suggestions on how far to keep it from z plants?

20170110_163458.jpg ooh yea... it came with these end caps...one for each side obv....

your suppose to feed the wires through the hole one of them has as you go...but I didnt..

when I figured it out I was all wired up and done and tried to finnagle-a-bagel but I could not get the screws it came with to thread properly so I gave up...

Now I'm thinking now it's needed for the fan to properly suck the heat out... any comments on that? Am I right that I need them or are they for aesthetic purposes? Well if you tilt it on its side the heat sink will slid out of the housing which those things would stop but other than that...

It also came with its own version of adjustable hangers... pull to raise press button to lower... but you have to nail it the ceiling I think and I already have those rope ones so I removed it...to do so just press the button around where the wire comes out and pull...if that makes sence lol

Another question about this set up.

I got the non dimmable led driver ...meanwell 240 2100... although it's " non dimmable" the website said there is a screw you can adjust to dim but factory settings is maxed out... is it not recommended to use said screw?

I'm like a junkie with withdrawals right now... started looking at distributors websites checking prices and shipping rates reviews on every company I see seeing other people's layouts a designing and redesigning looking at the new light wondering if I did alright how can I make it better how can I make it different and all these thoughts are going at once till I literally get nausus and have to go see if I got another nose bleed lol

I used that dimmer before getting a response...at full blast my room went up 10 degrees in an hour and the entire assembly seemed waaay to hot lol... dimmed it all the way down cobs themselves are cooler then my body temperature and they a have been running all day.

For those who don't know ...I sure as hell didn't ... on the face of the driver with the label and what have you, there's a little rubber thing on the bottom right... pop it off gently put a screw driver in there and lefty lowly righty brighty...idk

I sometimes sit in my grow area ... well I do it all the time... like I am now... and I noticed the new leds fan stopped as Imuch watching it...wonder why that happend...there doesn't appear to be like heat monitoring sensors or anything... shut it off and turned it on and it started up again
