In Groton Ct we had access to a local abandoned YMCA area.. it was turned into a historical site.. Called Gungywamp.
anyhow.....
we were 15 going on 16 (sounds like that intro to stand by me..) .. a gaggle of us kids were planning on spending the night at this location.. knowing our folks would not allow it.. we all told our folks we were sleeping at another persons house.. and took our sleeping bags and other gear and walked to the location.
This was a good 1 mile hike to the entry point of the site.. then another 2+ hour hike to where we were wanting to go..
anyhow were about 75% to the entryway of the site and were walking along the side of the road which has a pretty decent amount of traffic normally but since it's early not too many folks are out.. both sides of this road are covered in thick woods and natural over growth.. there are 3 kids in front of me and my older brother walking in a straight line.. we see a purple station wagon about 500 feet in front of us and are stunned knowing that's My mom and dads car.. We all knew it was their car.. and all of us dive into the thick overgrown bushes as fast as we can..
the car passes by... then slows down.. backs up and my sister is looking at me and Kenny in the back window smiling.. I see mom she's livid.. dad still trying to back up and put it in park.. he gets out.. yells at ALL of us.. tells us to go back home now.. Now there was plenty of room in the car.. they could have taken us all back in it.. but Dad is dad and wanted us to walk it out I guess...
ends up.. they told us.. they would have allowed us to spend the night there.. we ended up doing that a few months later.. with permission this time.
this is the place we slept in.. we Were told this was a Indian Burial site.. ends up being nordic or something..
