while condescending to students at historically black colleges, ol' opossum head strung off a few carefully constructed lies, as he is known for.
he claimed he introduced a bill to "repeal mandatory minimums" when his bill did nothing of the sort. it gave the option of assigning lesser sentences. so instead of 20 years for some arbitrary number of plants, a judge could see to it that you only get 8 years instead.

nevermind that the vast majority of those who face prison for drugs are not even subject to mandatory minimums, so his boasting rings mostly hollow.
don't let this guy fool ya, he is all for the drug war. he makes that clear whenever he goes to cater to evangelicals instead of condescending to blacks.
