I have been wanting to try this out for a while mainly as a way to maximize smaller spaces. I was thinking about the most cost effective way to run this setup, my area is 2x4x5, so i was thinking of using 30 single row 2 ft q strips run at 240 watts, with 4 rows of 660nm, run at 60 watts, or running 8 qb132 run at 240 watts and 4 rows of 660nm strips run at 60 watts. My concern is with either setup would i be able to bring the plants within 9-12 inches of the lights. Any other ways anyone can think of?

So you'll have about 30 inches of vertical space in each level. I'd go with strips, man. Lots of strips, run really low, so you can let the plants hit them without concern. How tall are you thinking of letting the plants get? Could be problematic for stretchy strains.

I was thinking about 24 inches would be the maximum I would allow them to get, I am going to try to squeeze some more height out of the system with drain to waste. And square floraflex 1 gal pots, from clone to 12/12. I’m thinking I could get at most 36” of vertical space with this setup, and get at worst in the 9-12” range. I’ve been watching a lot of dr Bugbee’s videos and it’s totally confusing as far as I understand it regarding spectrum. So I’m thinking 3000k or 3500k with a small amount of added 660nm. 8-16plants in a 2x4 area and just use SOG

I'm going to be dealing with a similar(ish) setup in a month or two. No racks, but I'll be putting (up to) 24 clones in 32 ounce deli containers to grow a hempy SOG, with no more than 3 feet between the floor and the light. I expect it to be challenging, but my hope is to get a perpetual going with an 8 weeker, so I can ultimately harvest 3 plants per week. And all this is supposed to happen in a 2x2, so I may be biting off more than I can chew!
