i dont think it would be a problm, they are not illegal so you should be ok but htey might want to look in you suitcase to see what its after your bag gose through the x-ray. hope this helps

Customs (At the Airport) probably won't have seen many Carbon Filters, In which case they will want to investigate which will mean you having to give them an explanation as to what it is. They will then probably want to take to filter apart to make sure there is nothing undesirable inside.

I doubt very much you will get it past an x-ray machine, in which case I would advise you post it.

I'm not in the united states, im flying from Italy to the uk. the bag will go in my suitcase under the plane. all i have is the extractor fan and carbon filter in two pieces in my suitcase which will go under my plane. basically they will check what is in the bag... i mean worst comes to worst they will check the contents of the bag right? but once they see its a fan it should be ok right?

as long as i dont say a thing, maybe it will go through without causing any problems in the xray... my Playstation 3 seems to be of the same complexity and they never said a thingg when i put it in my suitcase (always under the plane.)

Is your extractor used?
An extractor for making oil, right?

The carbon filter is a strange shape and might bring up concerns but it's not illegal in anyway so you couldn't actually get in trouble for it, just hassled for it.

You could just tell them it's used to remove unwanted smells from kitchens, bathrooms etc.

The only problem I can see is that something could be hidden in either item i which case they would want to take it apart. I can just see them ruining your filter and giving it back to you minus the carbon.

Your best bet would be to contact the airline your flying with and ask.

I didn't know when you said extractor that you meant an exhaust fan. Okay, so both are 100% legal.

Just say its for your art studio or something, used to clean air of cehmicals, paint, etc.

It's not illegal so they're not going to hassle you a bunch I doubt, if they do at all. Just google uses for the fan and filter other than growing and pick one. If they ask what it is just tell them what it is and if they want they can inspect it. You're not breaking any laws, yet.

I labed both objects VISIBLY, The carbon filter i labed it (SIMPLE AIR FILTER) and the exaust fan i labled it (SIMPLE INLINE FAN).

infact. i'll just say its for my uncle's workshop or something.

If you put labels on things that "could" pop a flag as who the hell takes the time to do that? Or, yea right...what are you trying to cover up.
I think the only thing that might cause a problem would be the fan...A metal object with wires connected to it.

yeah, but if they see the labels, that would mean they would be suspiscious in the first place, i mean, they would see unidentified objects in the bag through the xray right?

so they will ask themselves what those things are... if i labled what they are, they would know what they are so it would cause them less problems no? i mean these security guards are there only to search for explosives or things which look like bombs.. they wouldnt care what the use of the fan or filter was, they would only want to know what those things are, i mean they have 150+ bags to check, they arent going to speculate for 30 min on what the use of that filter or inline fan are for... they are there only for the security of the flight... please tell me if im wrong :)
