I have recently purchased an 8x4 tray for a flood and drain system and have access to a 40 gallon reservoir. Is the 40 gallon going to be big enough or do i need to go purchase a larger reservoir. :joint:

A 40 gallon reservoir is the right size for a 4x4 tray. For the 4x8 you'll need an 80 gallon.

Thanks for the quick reply. What would be the difference if i used the 40 gallon? kinda a last minute issue here, else I would be doing my reading and research.

Sadly it wont work. Since 40 gallons is only half of whats needed to fill the tray it'll only fill up half way. You'll get only half of the water level required to really soak those blocks. You COULD get another 40 gallon res, and then connect them together with some pvc pipe. But the trays are so cheap its not probably worth bothering.

Another note to you since you're new on trays: The first time you use the 80 gallon to your 4x8 and soak blocks up they'll retain a LOT of the water. You'll have to fill it up again but it wont be a problem much thereafter. Try to fill the tub to the top minus 1". You CAN go closer to the top but then if the blocks drain water back down you dont want to chance a spill in a sealed room. :)

Good luck and post any more questions if you need it.

40 g is barely enough for 4x4...
for a 4x8 you'll need a minimu of 70g, but then you'll be topping it off daily.
go for the 100g for ease & stability.
and you;ll only need one pump
