Quick question- seed shell stuck on seedling

one of my seedlings just sprouted, but the shell is kind of hanging off it. Will it come off by itself or should I try to gently pull it off?

If it doesn't fall off read this. This is from Mandala seeds' website. "Sometimes the seed hull and the inside skin is still attached to or enclosing the leaves. This happens if the seed was not planted deeply enough. Usually the seed hull is detached as the seedling emerges through the substrate. Spray the seed hull with mineral water and wait 1/2 hour for the moisture to soften the dry skin and soil residues. Then gently and slowly pull it off from the leaves. If it does not move easily spray more water. It is very important to remove it carefully because if you tear off the leaves the seedling dies."

i have a lemon skunk seedling that had the hull stuck on there. i let it stay like that for days before finally removing it carefully with a toothpick. but now the things growth is stunted. it's nowhere near the size of the others

I actually just had this happen to me the other week. Never happened before this. I ended up trying to pull it off (Didn't know about the mineral water.) Sad girls head popped off. I let it try to grow, and the stem did just fine but the leaves did not redevelop. Had to make room so I had to euthanize! :(

I waited a week one time for the seed shell to fall off and it never did so I pulled it off. Interestingly, the plant ended up being the smallest out of the batch. I'd say the quicker you get the shell off the less likely it is to be stunted. Of course, you risk serious injury or even death to the seedling if you don't perform the operation correctly. If you're too worried about messing it up, just wait a few days. There's a strong possibility it'll fall off on its own.
