i have one of those car travel coolers it has a 12v dc power plug i want to rewire that to a transformer

my plan is to fill it with ice water put a pump in and cycle the water thru my dwc setup not actually mixing just running thur a hose into a copper coil then back out into the cooler and so on

i have a 24v transformer and a 9v what would work better it only draws 12v would 24v messup the cooler or does it only draw what it needs +rep to best answer

Another easier way to hook it up would be to go and buy a cheap car battery charger, and hook that up to the plug. That way all you need to do is hook it up and plug it into the wall.

I doubt the cell phone chargers would have enough amperage to run the pump, however as jimjim2609 says I run alot of my 12V fans with a car batery charger.

Mains to car cigarette lighter adapters are available, just be sure to check the amp rating on the cooler as this will have to correspond to the adapter. (different ratings available)

A car charger is a very possible solution, only problem id point out there is finding one that's ok to run constantly and provides enough charge.
Most modern car chargers have both a fast charge and 'trickle' charge.
The number of car chargers iv gone through is ridiculous.

Oh yeah and i would not go down the phone charger route. Almost certainly wouldnt work unless your phone is an absolute brick, like you need a backpack to carry it brick.

Grab a car battery, run a charger on it.
Strip the wires and add clips to connect to the
battery poles.

The center pole is positive and the outer is negative on the car charger.

Or you could buy a converter and hook it up without the need for the above.
