quick 12/12 sexing?

I've heard of doing this before, but a friend of mine told me he does it with good results all the time. does anyone else put their plants under 12/12 light for a few days just until they show sex, then move them back to 18/6 to become mother plants? I think I have mostly good quality genetics, but I don't want to stress the plants to much and ruin my hard work and money. if I'm in a hurry, is doing this worth the risk of saving a few weeks, or should I take clones and flower those to find the sex?

I do not like the idea of switching them back.
The way I do it, is
I take a dark garbage bag, and make a sleeve, cutting it the size of a shirt sleeve, I use scotch tape to seal the edges. I put that sleeve over one branch, and let that one branch be on 12/12. Every 12 hours I take and leave it off, and then I put it back on for 12 hours. Just that one branch thinks it is on 12/12 and that one branch begins to flower, showing sex within a week. Then I know!
