I was planning on growing with a self watering container like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZUCxBHeq04 but was wondering the best way to fertilize the container. I didnt know whether use a water soluble fert and fill the res with fret or put the fertilizer in the soil its self. Also what is the best kind of soil to use in this set up.. most people seem to make soil for best drainage but since this set up is covered and needs to abosrb the water I would think there might be a better soil for this.

The bottom 1/3 of roots are specialized to absorb water, the top 1/3 of roots are specialized to absorb nutrients. So I suspect the soil would be the best place to have ferts, not the rez down below.
