Question about when to transplant young plants.

Hey guys, I am currently growing a short rider and I just put my Nordic Karishnakov seed in water last night.
That's a weird name for a seed, why is it even called that lol.

I haven't grown a regular strain in a long time so I have a couple questions. This plant says right in the description that it's a very big plant and if you don't have enough space to only veg it for a week or two.

So I am going to try and control the size by first putting it in a cup until it's ready to be transplanted.
The pot that it will be going into isn't that big of a pot. It might be about a gallon or so.
I am just so worried that if I put it into a bigger pot it will grow really big.
If it grows really big I wouldn't be able to grow it because of the smell being so strong.

Do you guys think I might get rootbound or anything like that because I'm not moving it into a bigger container?

Hi how are you today? First things first, 1-2 weeks of veg is bullshit dont worry about how big it gets you can control every step of this process. You can grow it in a solo cup, 1 gallon or 3-5 gallon it depends on the space you have to play with. It will get root bound in a 1 gallon through flower but it will flower. You will be keeping it watered/fed about every three days so I would go 3 gallon and water/feed once a week. You can top, LST train and many other options for keeping it low and manageable. Unless it is a feminized seed, you will still have to sex it. I could use a few more details about your grow and space. Hope it helps.

Really bad, I only got about a quarter z out of it.
It was the pot size I think that made it so small. I'm going to use the same pot size for this grow because it isn't an auto so I think it will grow bigger even though it's in the same size pot as the auto was.

That was a long sentence lol. So what I'm going to do is grow this plant and see if how big it gets. If it doesn't produce much of a yield like the auto, than I will transplant it into a bigger pot.
The reason for me having to put my plant in a smaller pot is because of the smell. My last plants I grew 4 years ago smelled so bad that my friends could smell them outside.
I grew them in a big pot so that's why it smelled so much.

I can't get a filter or anything like that so I'm pretty much in a testing stage right now. I also grew my last plant (the auto) without using any nutes because I couldn't get any money to spend on them. The quality of the weed was good even though it wasn't fed any nutes. Hey buddy I'm doing pretty good, I have a nice buzz goin lol.
I have seen plants grown in beer cups that actually grew to a pretty big size. That's amazing considering they are in a small cup.
The pot I will be using is a little less than a gallon I think.

The problem about getting rootbound is that I can't grow this plant in a 3 gallon container, not even a 2 gallon container. It really depends on the strain because some smell more than others.
I wish I had a list of the least smelliest plants. Do you know of any strains that aren't that potent? Thanks for the reply man.

Hows It going. Little confused here...why do you think the pot size made it smell more?

you need two things to make plants smell, terpenes and stress. unstressed plants don't reek from feet away.
and plants that haven't been fed well and had a good environment won't have a lot of terpenes to produce any odor.
if you can rub the stem between your thumb and finger and not smell anything on your hand, thats not a good sign.
if you can stand several feet away and it reeks, also not the best of signs.

You want to explain that again? Because what you just said doesn't really make any sense, either you didn't communicate clearly or you've just debunked everything I have learned about growing cannabis.
Smell is dependent on strain and terpene production, stress has nothing to do with it. Cannabis plants stink, some more than others but you can't stop it by feeding it well or not stressing it. Healthy plants produce more terpenes and bigger buds so more smell and the danker the smell the better the bud. You can't you have it both ways the more you stress it through bad watering schedules and no nutes the less terpenes and less bud growth you get and less smell. High terpenes = more stank, better buds, better smoke, better taste, I could be wrong but that's what I've gathered through my growing and research.

plants produce an aroma when they're healthy. terpenes aren't being sprayed off of the plant, they're bound up inside of it, or should be, and shouldn't be producing a reek you can smell from several feet away. if you can smell it that strong that far away, stress of some kind is causing it.
thats how you can have a healthy terpene profile and not let the neighbors on all sides know about it.
if your plant is stressed and doesn't produce a strong odor, its because it doesn't have enough terpenes and essential oils to do so. a healthy plant should have an odor, but not a reek you can smell through two closed doors.

perhaps @RM3 might have something to say about it?
