Question about "solo cup grows'

I know these things are seen as a novelty like solo cup.grow comps n all that. My question is how do people deal with getting rootbound? im trying a similar thing and some of the plants get surprisingly big from pics I've seen with a sizable amount of bud (given the conditions) doesn't rootbound stop growth? Mines pistils have just popped out and the roots are already growijg out the bottom not hugely but just one or two starting to peak out.

Not too fussed as I've started a one in a bigger pot, just curious really thanks

In the solo cup challenge; you will be root bound. Watering every day, even twice.

It's not easy to keep a rootbound plant happy lol but that's why it's a challenge lol

Thats the point of the contest though, its not "that" easy to grow and maintain massive plants in small containers.

Contest are nice though, not every plant will be the same size because it depends on almost everything. (Genetics/phenotype,medium type,nutrients,health of roots & plant,environment ect ect.)

Ah it makes sense now haha i just thought the challenge was just who's plant got bigfest didn't realise the "work" aspect to it

Hell, I’m tempted to try it just for the hell of it; though I’m sure @Wisher2 and @Homie Da Clown and @Budley Doright would be the first to tell me to get my hydro grow straight first *lol*

they seem pretty kool just surprised at how much they grow from such a small pot hopefully it buds before it dies even if i get a joint from it lol started to flower a few days ago arpubd the same time roots started to show and its an auto so pressed for time

if you got a small bag of coco
a cheap cycle timer
a pump
some 1/4" hose
and a drip manifold
I could help you murder it in a solo cup challenge

or anyone on this thread for that matter
I could get anyone here a 2-3' serious plant from a solo cup

FYI anyone thinking of trying solo cup grows for production should see this comparison below. It's a great "sport" for fun and getting to know some of the community. But for growing on a regular basis it's a pita and not very productive.

Here's my solo cup entries on Sunday, these went straight to 12/12 when they had their tails ready to plant.

Here's my pheno hunt babies. These were planted into cups 2 days AFTER the one's above, but put into a normal seedling environment and 20/4 lighting. Transplanted to these 1gal pots on Sunday when the pic was taken :shock:

if you are using a hydroponic method, then rootbound is irrelevant as you just need to keep the plant roots constantly fed
I actually grow in 1/2gal square pots and my plants net between 50-100g per plant
I grow in coco in a drain to waste system

the only difference in plant growth is the light cycle
as a matter of fact you would have gained even more growth under 24/0 lighting
the cup has nothing to do with the growth of your pheno hunt babies

Yeah i haven't really planned on it doing well at all or even budding,my other one have just broken soil in a 4, gal pot, haha jheez i would put a PIC up but ive smashed lens on my phone, what do you mean by normal seed environment sorry newb

Exactly my point, the two cups are the same strain as some of the 1gal pots now, same seeds, even same batch of seeds. Only difference is the lighting schedule.

but this would mean start from seed
of which I do not run fem seeds
so that will be a problem
if it started from clone...say a certain size clone...no problem

I'm heading out for dinner.

I'll make a list of interested players and share it with who ever runs the tournaments next year and let them create the rules. Regular seeds were used by many contestants.
This year 50 started in the 2 comps combined. Combined there are 30 left. Maybe 12-15 will finish IDK.
I bet next year there will be more. :peace:
