Question about smell

I posted this in the odor control thread but it doesn't look like anyone has been in there in a while. So I have a tent that's 36 inches wide and 2 feet deep. I have to put the tent in my closet right now their is no where else for it. When it's in the closet the two 4 inch flanges are flush with the wall because they are in the back of the tent. So the only ones I could use are the 6 inch flanges. Now my tent is only 28 cubic feet so I really don't want to use a 6 inch inline fan when they move like 423 cfm that would be conplete overkill. So what other alternative do I have? Do I really even need a filter when I'm only growing one auto? I was going to just use an inline duct fan for ventilation since it's such a small tent but I can't hook up a carbon filter to that. Any suggestions?

Are you worried about people knowing you grow when they walk in the house? If my tent is opened just a Crack or my exhaust fan is of during flowering my house starts to get dank. Is the closet left open ? Where are you gonna exhaust to ?

You're talking about a tent here? Don't the holes have drawstrings on them? Why not just use the 4inch fan and filter, and pull the drawstrings so that the 4inch fits in the 6inch hole.

Use the carbon filter. These plants do smell.

Also , I use an 8 inch for my 2x2 tent. I have about 25 feet of ducting and a 200 cfm filter . I used to have a 4 inch but it was barely just enough on full blast. Bigger fan and flanges than you need are only gonna help you run it quieter and cooler.

I was planning on exhausting into my attic, if I cut a hole in the top of the closet it runs straight into the attic. And I keep the closet closed I don't open it unless I need to get into the tent.

The holes do not have drawstrings just Velcro to open and close them so their is no way to make it fit a four inch.

Also heat isn't really an issue I'm using led two a51 rw75s the temp stays about 70 degrees it hasn't went above 75 yet

I have one small auto WW going in my veg tent. I had to pull out the carbon filter because the home owners were complaining about the smell.

Even if heat isn't an issue you'll still want to move some air across the surface of the leaves, and you'll need to ventilate through a filter to deal with the smell.

Also, I meant 6inches above.

I didn't think about that sounds good I'll give it a try . Thanks for the help. I just don't want to get a bigger Fan when it's more than I need and makes more noise.

Yeah I know ventilation is important that's why regardless I would have gotten a small duct fan just to move air but I definitely don't want to take a risk with any smell and I planned on getting a carbon filter originally but didn't even think about the four inch ports being against the back of the wall. I'm going to try what you said about the wood and if not I'll just go with the six inch and get a speed controller.

By the way how loud are those fans? Because noise is almost as bad as smell when someone comes in and just hears a loud humming from a bedroom closet

Actually the part about a bigger fan is it moves more cfm . So at a lower speed it runs the cfm of a small fan at higher speed so you can actually quiet down your operation . Also. Careful about venting straight to attic, make sure to connect to the bathroom exhaust or a roof vent so you don't build up moisture in your attic

So if I get a 4 inch fan and use a speed controller would that still work? The fan I'm looking at is 170 cfm but the filter says 150 minimum so if I turned the speed down would it still pull enough air?
When I looked at the six fan and filter combo the filter says 170 minimum and 265 max yet the fan is 423 cfm so it's a little confusing

If you are going to run ducting from the tent, up to the attic, and out the roof(which you should do). Then that is going lower the cfm of air your fan is exhausting. I dont know the exact percentage, plus all filters vary, but the filter eats 75% more or less of the cfms from the performance of your fan as well.

carbon filter and tent or no grow imo. smell isn't something to play with. get a fan speed controller and carbon filter and put them up above your tent.

and use LED if you need to keep the closet closed at any point. HPS will buildup heat very quick.. even the LED you will probably want to have the closet door open when the lights are on in the tent when possible... flowering at night would be a good idea.

Yeah I have a 2x3 tent and I'm using Area 51 led I'm thinking about trying to do a diy filter just to try it out and if that doesn't work I'll get a real one I really don't want a loud fan going all the time that defeats the purpose of stealth when the fan can be hear so I might try to hook up a duct fan to a diy filter and if it doesn't work I'll run up to htg and get the real deal
