Hey

I have a mate who is a paint sales rep. She was saying that flat white paint isnt as reflective as reflective gloss paint. She want on about levels of gloss paint and how they would be most effective bla bla bla. She said that flat white paint is just matte paint? Is the flat white paint suggested in other threads here not what I rekon it is?

you get gloss paint from adding clear to the color you want to be gloss. lets say youve got white paint. clear paint isnt clear it has a lil bit of a amber color to it. so by adding the clear you are really makeing it less white.
and if you add gloss to anything the has bumps or like a hood with dents youll get hot spots.

flat white paint is about 85% reflective if painted on a flat surface.. gloss paint is only about 60-65% reflective.. the reason that flat paint is better is because it reflects the light more evenly.. as was mentioned in an earlier post, gloss paint can concentrate the reflection in a few areas and it will can cause hot spots.

the best would be pure TiO2 paint but that is to expansive to put on a wall really. gloss paint never can be as effective since it has a clear layer on it which absorbs light. and to sales reps, most i met in my life had no fuckin clue what they been talkin about;)

mylar is good, if you can put it up without wrinkling it like alumium foil, or if you are gonna use a foiler spray. flat white paint is best for me or nursery plastic.
