Question about MH lighting

I recently picked up a hydrofarm sunburst 175w mh setup off craigslist for $65(also gave me a roll oh mylar), but he included an eye 150w hps conversion bulb which he used for 1 season last year to flower his plants, but he no longer had the 175w mh bulb. Which really didn't bug me cause i think i got a great deal on it(what do you guys think?) I had purchased it just to use to for vegging some plants before throwing them outside for a second harvest(in southern california), so I will be purchasing a 175w mh bulb.

Now, my question is, what kelvin rating would be optimal for a MH bulb(that isn't overly expensive)? I know for cfl's the higher is better for vegging, but it seems like for the 175MH bulb im really just seeing 4000k or 4200k for reasonable prices, and the higher kelvin ones are a ton more money. I was looking at a hydroponics stores website from a town over, and they have one there for a decent price that has a blue color bulb(i assume its a higher kelvin number), but it doesn't list the rating of it on the website. Would the 4200k bulb be fine for vegging, or would i be better off spending a bit more money on say a 5000k or checking out that blueish color one and going to the store to see what the rating is(or i could always call too, haha), but i am just new to using MH lights. Or if anyone could direct me to a good bulb online for a reasonable price would also be great.

any help would greatly be appreciated

thanks in advance

i would use a 5000 to 6500 k light thats closest to the actual color temp of natural light i think the 4000 would be too white.

My MH is about 5500K - same as the sun - didn´t cost a bomb from an industrial lamp supplier - not a ripoff grow shop.
