question about hermaphrodites

Do hermaphrodites start off only female THEN suddenly show signs of male pollen sacs?
OR Is it possible for a male plant to suddenly exhibit female pistils?

Ive got a plant that has the tell tale signs of male pollen sacs, but also tiny tiny hairs that might be pistils or might just be small preflowers. Im just keeping it for a bit longer just in case its pistils, coz its my only plant, and im still hoping. If its a hermie i can still smoke it, right?

Should i just throw it away?

Wait..Males balls look more clustered like grapes.. normal growth can have a pod look to them..usually single and more teardrop shape.. Seeing as it's your only plant grow it out... I'd take a pod/ball in a while and remove and open to see if pollen or leaf material inside........ Luck..

*Hi Sea...Deja vu.. didn't we do the exact same ? yesterday...:p:p

ahhh i see...

ive read quite a few times that a non-hermie male plant usually shows sex earlier then a non-hermie female plant, then, maybe in a hermie plant, it would be possible that the male flowers could pop up just a tad earlier than the female flowers.

well... ill just give it a few more days then.
thanks for the reply seamaiden.

i guess ill just give it a few more days. but im 80% sure that its a male. just that there are pistil-looking preflowers on some parts. so it got me thinking that it might be a hermie, on which i dont mind growing till the end, since its still smokable.

thanks for the reply twisty.

Folks generally pull their males, so it's hard to say how prevalent male-to-female hermaphroditus might actually be. Could be often, but most would never know.
Not worth the risk of growing them out if other plants are around.
