Question about flower pots

Ok I have some 3 gallon pots

I use regular measuring cups to fill the pots.

What seems strange is after I mix all the soil together and add to the pot there is always so much soil left over.

I have mixed exactly 3 gallon of soil and when I put in the pot there is always a lot left over.

Has this happened to any of you or is there anything I am doing wrong

No one actually measures the amount going into the pot unless they are mixing soil
I find that kinda strange....
Pots can probably hold their listed amount in wet soil, not dry
Also why are the links in your sig to icmag?

Well when you are growing indoors and using a wardrobe closet, you don't use that much soil.

I started with 6 3 gallon pots, but yet had 2 1.5 cubic foot bags of FFOF also 3.8 cubic foot of sphagnum peat moss, plus about 8 bags of perlite.

So when I mix up my soil along with blood meal, bone meal, and some dolomite lime, I don't want to have all this mixed soil just lying around.

I am not the only one that does this, many people that have small grows just want to mix enough for what they are using.

My initial question was if I am mixing up 3 gallon of soil, which the cup I use is 1 quart, would be 12 of these cups.

4 quarts equals a gallon. 4 times three being 12 of the cups.

When I brake up my soil recipe it would go as follows

4 (1 quart) cups soil foxfarm Ocean forest potting soil

8 (1 quart) cups Premier peat moss

2 tablespoon MG bone meal

2 tablespoon MG Blood Meal

30 % perlite

2 tablespoon dolomite lime or 1 tablespoon if you are using promix/sunshine mix #4

When all this is mixed up it is a lot more than the 3 gallon pot can hold.

This organic soil recipe was taken from ICMAG (I have stated that in previous post) from a user called Blazeoneup.

I also checked my signature, and it does not point to ICMAG but here at Roll IT UP

fuckkkkkkkk
enough soil to do the job is enough soil!
who cares how much it is..?

Well when you grow using organic soil, ratios of mixture are important

Why do you think there are soil recipes

If was as simple as "enough soil to do the job", then i could just go to back yard and shovel in dirt until the pots were full

Makes me wonder what your growing methods are

I figured you were making your own soil mix, what does it consist of?

It consist of

1 part fox farm ocean forest

2 parts sphagnum peat moss

also 30% perlite

Since I have 3 gallon pots it is also 2 TBSP Blood meal, 2 TBSP Bone Meal and 2 TBSP dolomite lime.

This organic soil recipe was taken from ICMAG by a user named Blazeoneup.

He has a great thread there on this mix and proves with plenty of pics how you can go from start to finish with no extra nutrients.

You also don't have to PH your water either.

I will be buying some Alaska Morbloom fert so that just in case they need some towards the end of flowering.

Oh and it is just some regular bag seed also.

Next grow I want to order some skunk seeds from attitude but I want to get a some more experience growing before I spend money on seeds.
