Question about autoflowering vs regular flowering

So I have done a few grows now. They have all been regular flowering, aka I choose when to flip from 18+ to 12-12. I just bought a couple seeds and they sent me a few promo seeds. A single one of those promo seeds is autoflowering. I do not want to do a single plant grow. Would it be unrealistic to grow it with another regular flowering plant? Theoretically I think I could just keep track of when the autoflower is about to flip and then change light schedule to encourage other plant to flip same time. Just wanna confirm that's ok before I go all in on that strategy. I'd rather not throw the seed away if I don't have to.

For reference/confirmation. This is an indoor tent setup. I can't imagine anything else is really relevant, but if any other info is needed just ask.

TLDR; Can I grow autoflowering with regular flowering in an indoor tent. If not, why? If yes, any tricks required?

I'd agree with the above. They'll grow fine in 12/12 but the yield will suffer. It's better to run them in a veg tent and leave the flower tent for photos if you have the option. Or just toss it outside and let the sun do the work if possible.

I've grown an auto with photos before without a problem.

@rkymtnman @FirstCavApache64 Interesting, so it would have a negative effect on the yield but should still make it to completion just fine. Definitely something to consider, thank you. Can autoflower work in a SoG setup? I feel like that could be a decent way to minimize loss.

i'm running 2 autos right now but i normally run fem photos.

i feel like i'm going to miss being able to flip to flower based on their height instead of letting them flower whenever they decide to with the autos.

I really enjoy that factor of having some control over the end product based on how long you wait to flip. I felt that's the way it would be, that's why I never tried autoflower lol. The consistency throughout could be nice for getting a good water/nute schedule though. I'm sure there are pros and cons to each, Im just not really familiar with auto yet. i bought some Mephisto autos so i hope their quality should be good. but yes, i agree that it is nice to have some idea of how the canopy will look before 12/12 flip. we'll see when these 2 get done this summer as to whether i like autos. lol.

I have been in the exact same pickle decided to go with 2 autos along with 4 photos fem and the yield on the 2 autos was rather embarrassing to be honest and were basically only growing at half pace on everything seedling,veg,flowering if you can run them at 24/7 far better results so basically you can don't no problem but as the guys said yield suffers a lot but I would love too see others results as the whole thing is a learning curve thigs work well for different strains and not so well for others depends on a lot of different factors I guess, Hope that helps

It would depend on the strain in my opinion. Most autos I grow had very good secondary branches that greatly contributed to the overall yield. I'm sure there are single cola dominant autos that would work, you just have to find an auto with the best structure for a SOG style grow.

I throw an auto in with my photo grows sometimes if I get a free seed or something. I like to veg a little longer so its nice to get some smoke early with the auto harvest a couple or a few weeks before the photo harvest. I have 4 autos this year. I kept one in the tent and put the other 3 outside. The three outside buds are a little bigger but they also look farther along in the flowering cycle than the indoor one which is strange to me.

I dont think switching to a 12/12 light cycle after 6 weeks would affect the yield that much, but I dont really know for sure I dont grow autos enough. Also then when its done and you take it out of the tent you have extra room to spread the other girls around a little more too.

Photoperiod plants are going to be reproducible (cloneable) and require less light to produce in flower.

There are only downsides to growing autos, I started out growing autos back in 2018. Big mistake. Your probably watching too much YouTube.
