Hello all thank you and welcome this is my quest to grow quality medicine and work on my skills as a grower I am a complete novice with a lot of web trolling knowledge (and we know everything we hear on the net is truth.) I hope to expand my skill through communication here from anyone willing to do so I will be active with this thread and keep updates on the soon to start grow all input is welcome thanks again.

THE GROW
1. (equipment)

5x5 mylar growtent

300watt cob led x2 (gogreenleds.com)
6" inline fan 440cfm x2 (Vantech amazon package)
charcoal filter (not sure of size)
7 gallon smartpots x5
Thermometer/hydrometer x2 (one is wireless so I can see temp/RH from my lazyboy :)
outlet timer for lights
and a small fan

( might be picking up a portable a/c this weekend 100$ off CL I don't have climate control in my house for summer time and don't wanna run into problems when temps start to climb and I'm flowering an thoughts on portable a/c in a growtent?) is there any other equipment I might find myself needing?

medium is soil 50/50 FF OF (ocean forest) and HF (happy frog)

* I heard somewhere FFOF was to hot for new plant and to cut it with happy frog I got another bag of FFOF I might add just to make it maybe 70/30...also any need add more perlite in this I have heard mixed thoughts as it already has it mixed in

Nutrients
General hydroponics flora series gro , bloom and micro

also go the performance pack wich includes Flora Blend, Liquid KoolBloom, FloraKleen, Rapid Start and Floralicious Plus (also bought some cal mag and PH up & down)
*just wanted something simple and proven for my first go round and suggestions on easy to use or better nutrients would be awesome or any other products I might find myself needing on this grow

genetics

Placed an order to herbies on the 19th order included (mind you I have no idea about genetics I read review and looked at spec/pics to choose)

Dinafem Feminised White widow XXL auto x5

Fast Buds girl scout cookies auto fem x3

freebies
Dinafem sour disel auto Fem x2
Dinafem OG Kush Fem x1
Dinafem Cheese Fem x2
Afghani Reg x5

so there you have it that's mostly where I'm at I have so many questions and will ask them as I go in hopes of finding great knowledge on this great resource we have thanks to all for past and future info I will post pictures of set up and equipment as soon as I can

FFOF is a pretty 'hot' (means a lot of nutes) and the FF Light Warrior is too 'cool' I have always used the Happy Frog with 30% perlite...no guess work and never had any unfixable issues. My very 1st grow I used the Technaflora Recipe for success and that is what I got, success. Since then, I have used the Fox Farm nute system. Up until my current run I used only the trios (liquid and soluble) this time I am running the full 'dirty dozen' course. If you want to see how it goes check my journal in the link below.

LED is growing in popularity. However, most LED growers will tell you the DIY lights are best. Commercial LEDs are over hyped and oversold. That said, you have a lot of space and plants there for LED. The footprint of the light will likely not be sufficient enough. You can add some t5 flouros to pump it up a bit. Since you already have the LEDs it is moot to say but HID or of course natural sunlight is the way to go.

Welcome to RIU and medicine cultivation...poke around the forums...read, read, read, and then read some more.

Good Luck and Great Growz

Welcome and happy growing.

You probably wont need the ac. It gets hot down here in summer and I don't use one.

Personally I'd want a little more light than that for the size of the room. I use a 1k hps in a 4x4, however that's a little overkill. A 600w works fine as well

Do you have room outside for a vegetable garden? The learning curve on pot is flattened out a bit for those who grow plants. All kinds of plants. Put the big pack of nutes away for now and just use the G,B and Micros. KISS and good luck.

hello all and thank you for the responses and intrest in the thread I understand the light might be an issue and might be regretting the purchase my thoughts were LED is the new technology and why would I build a new grow with century old tech I know its proven but after a lot of research in this field and my other hobby (reefkeeping) I know that LED's are gonna have a place in are grow rooms and will be just as popular as HID's in the future also just wanted to keep temps down and save energy costs the 2 300w models I have claim to cover a 4x3 area at 13" so I thought two would cover a 5x5 np (was also thinking supplement T5 if I need to plenty of fixtures laying around from fish tanks what would be a good T5 bulb for supplement)

LIGHT description as it reads

Cree CXB3070 LEDs provide most efficient PAR output per watt of any LED grow light!

  • Optimized spectrum for maximum photosynthetic response
  • Increases yield, decreases electricity use, and shortens time to harvest
  • 600W HPS replacement with 4ft x 3ft coverage at 16" height
  • COMPLETE 5 YEAR WARRANTY plus our exclusive 180 DAY SATISFACTION OR RETURN GUARANTEE

(once again complete novice here but the way I read it is equivalent to a 600w hps so if I have 2 wouldn't that be equivalent to 1200W HPS in a single room)

PS. someone in the forum needs to start doing DIY Cob builds for members so much interest out there and id rather give my money to you guys!!!

Crazy how I can troll the net for days weeks finding new stuff everyday and yet never came across this manufacture and many others very cool unit I like how it is upgradeable and easy to change spectrum if needed I noticed it said " UPGRADEABLE TO: 900W maximum rated at 50W per socket " so how many watts to socket without this said upgrade? but ya neat looking unit any thoughts on the lights I have or did I make my first of many wrong moves?

Never used the lights you got myself, but I did start with led lights(galaxy hydro) grew some pretty decent buds, but when my plants got larger in flower I noticed some yellowing near the bottoms, tried the usual stuffs(ph, more feed, less water, etc etc) then learned that sometimes yellowing can simply be not enough light, so I decided to get more.

Looked around and saw what some other people were doing and their results, and after constant use of a heater through the winter months decided on 600w hid lighting, I can honestly say I'm glad I did, I will still use my leds in late flower to get the extra par, and in a smaller auto grow once I flip my main tent to 12/12, but with my hid I'm getting more stable temps in my area.
Not saying this is right for your situation, just was right for mine

Ya I completely understand and I know HID is proven just really wanted to go the led route so I guess we will all find out what I can pull off with this setup and anyone who is willing to help and offer advice can join on this quest to grow quality meds...

so realistically how many plats could I run with the 2 300watt units you think? Also would it help to maybe run a T5 4bulb or two and if so how would I incorporate that?

IMAG0463.jpg you could hang this way, just sub the hid for your t5s, might not need it though, I grew 2 rather nice bushy pineapple chunks on just the 2 300w leds, with a little defoliation I could have let more light in and not had the yellowing
P.s. this is far too much light pictured, don't recommend it

Veg feed until they are in flower(not a couple of pistils) but full on flower, then switch to bud feed after the "stretch"

ahhh indeed with nutrients yes, I was talking the bulb mix on the T5's I have a few 4 bulb setups from my reef tanks but would have to switch out the bulb for a proper spectrum would I go a mix like veg/blm/veg/blm or just go all bloom? or the other way once again would just be supplement light if need alongside the 12 cobs

on another note I got the tent all set up and ran some temp numbers ran into some issues hanging the fan and filter I felt as if I was pushing the limit in the cross bars on top so I decided to mount the fan and filter on a small stand inside the tent since I'm being told the 2 300watt lights wont fill the whole room I moved the grow over and have equipment on the other side fan filter on a stand with a fan blowing at light and room for an AC witch I did pick up 80$ for a 10,000btu off CL had to do it so its kinda hooked up in there as well most likely take it out until I need it but here is how it looks so far

so ran the tent for 18hrs checking temps and such temp was 72f when I started in tent maxed at 86f and that's with inline fan and a small fan blowing on light no ac little to high and might have to figure a place to run ducting I rent and window faces a busy street so options are limited right now just dumps hot air into the same room as tent I have a basement so my heat ducting is in the floor so I might run it into the vent in that room then just disconnect the hose from the heater in the basement so it just dumps into the basement only problem is that's where I was gonna vent the exhaust for the AC come summer time could I maybe put a Y piece on my heat register and seal both 6" vent tubes to it lol just wanna get temps stable before I start germ
