Quantum Board vs Old Style Viparspectra.

oh yeah that fixture has more wattage than the mars too. You might be good with that kingbrite if they have a good reputation

Thanks. I'm specifically either buying a TS 1000 or a Viparspectra 600 if I buy now. I don't have time for DIY either.
The thing I would really like to know is does the Mars TS1000 really have similar results as the Vipar 600 while only using 58% of the power?
That seems crazy. I can vouche for Viparspectra's claims. Is this the real deal? Or will it be larfy? Or what?

I'm not really trying to research the best lights as much as the tech, traditional vs quantum board. But I'm only familiar with Viparspectra, and this is my budget, and these lights claim the exact coverage for the exact price.
I'll try to find more PAR charts to compare.

They are claiming a Mars Hydro TS1000W(actual 150W) quantum board can cover the same area(2.5*2.5) as a viparspectra600(actual 260W) old style. At the same price, $170. That is 58% of the wattage for the same area.
The par chart for the QB looks really good IMO.
Do you experienced guys have an idea of what the returns would be between the two?
150w of white LEDs and added 660red can definitely do a good job in a 2.5x2.5. The only qualm I've got about these new Mars fixtures is the 1:1 ratio of 3000k:5000k white epistar diodes. There's just a bit too much blue.

I have never run CMH, but it was my understanding they run a bit hotter than HPS, how tall should the tent be with one 315w CMH do you think?
I've been wanting to add one into my tent to add some heat in the winter to my LEDS
no, they run way cooler than a hps. the fixture will take up the most room since the best 315s run the bulb vertically like it was designed by philips

Viparspectra also has a lot of blue, maybe even more, according to the charts I'm seeing.
It kind of looks on the charts like the TS1000 is actually better than the Vipar 600 in spectrum and PAR, even though the power is considerably less.
Can anyone confirm this?

that's easy. not the vipar600
Thanks for the advice, if Viparspectra is as bad as everyone says, I'm not going to know what to do when I get a good light. I've been running Viparspectra 450 for over 2 years in my 32x32, it's rated for 24x24. I usually boost it with a 50 watt blurp when it is cool enough.

they aren't bad lights. most people badmouth all these cheaper blurples b/c of false advertising. they aren't the wattage they are advertised as.

Yeah and it makes it hard to follow. I don't know if it is legit going to flower what they say or if they are skimping me on something. That's why I'm having trouble believing I can flower a 32x32 with 150w. If it is legit as good as the Vipar 600 then I would choose it. That is a hell of an efficiency increase.

good catch. that's not enough led light IMO. a good rule of thumb is 40 w /sq ft, you've got close to 7 so you'll need 280.

i still say your best option is a 315w CMH. my 2 cents.

Why are those two lights the only options?

220watts of quality LED in that space is totally fine for flowering.

Amazon I'm sure is where you're looking at this? Not sure with everything going on right now if shipping costs would actually make it more costly or not, but I've been referring everyone interested in these types of lights to just go to the source. Spider Farmer and Mars are so Ilse besides using Samsung LM301B/H Diodes rather than Epistars on the Mars, but here's a link to check out:

It seems that now there are links at the bottom of the page to MARS Branded lights as well but prices aren't much better than Amazon.

more light > less light
This is absolutely true. You're better off getting a more powerful fixture if you can afford it and dim if needed
Theoretically it's true, but in practice not always worthwhile. Are you gonna suggest a 1k HPS in a 6 sq/ft space too based on the same metric?

The OP is taking about buying a budget light, so let's work with his budget options and suggest something realistic. I don't see why 220watts in a 6 sq/ft space wouldn't be perfectly adequate, and we can find something of quality within budget no doubt.

you should re-read. the OP was assuming that 150w was enough for 32x32 which is closer to 7 sq ft. my reply to that was i told him shoot more for 280w or 40 per sq.

Again, technically that is true, but in reality a 32x32 tent will have 30x30 internal measurements, and it closer to 6 sq/ft than 7. Sure 280w might give you some extra boost, but 220w of quality LED in that space is totally adequate.
