You are kind of a, dare I say, snake, when it comes to debating. The topic at hand, stay with me here, was that "Putin does what's best for the people". I proved you wrong with the above example. Now you are talking about his approval rating. Stay on topic kiddo.

He does what he does for the benefit of the Russian people.

Ie. Exactly what a nation's leader should be doing.
Okay, what's the benefit of starting a war with a neighbor they've signed a peace treaty with, knowing Russia would suffer massive sanctions for doing so? That is, other than propaganda and whipping up nationalism for the purpose of propping up the current power structure?

It's exactly for that reason why he invaded Eastern Ukraine and is propping up the rebels. He also did the same exact thing in Georgia with Ossetia. However, there's another facet to this. Anyone can google 'Russian economy faltering 2013,' and you'll see that as early as 2013 the Russian economy wasn't doing so well. So he violates the Budapest Memorandum (non binding though, so oh well), annexes Crimea, puts his military on the Ukrainian border, and props up rebels in Eastern Ukraine. Then he gets slammed with economic sanctions and what's his next line? 'The reason why the economy is doing bad is the EU-US sanctions.' Pretty clever.

Clever, except that it doesn't solve the bad economy problem. Perhaps since it isn't HIS problem, it's not a problem?

Smoke some more, this is entertaining!

Rome was not bright down by outside forces, it rotted from the inside out. So it shall be with us. It just won't take as long.

The truth is and is really funny more or less whats bred into every amercians brain at a young age is reputation and really that is all usa is going on now and shortly going to be fighting for there lifes
The only problem lies in whether or not enough money would be made off the war to cover the hundreds of billions of dollars that would simultaneously be spent on it. Another possible reason for deciding to be in charge of thwarting all evil, a role the U.S. has chosen to take on, is for reputation. A reputation of a country and the power they possess — or are believed to possess — is of course of the highest importance on such global chessboards. The most common belief is that a country like the U.S. (and, in this situation, Britain and France) is after two things and two things only: money and power.
