purple bulb on start up 600w hps

bulb or ballast fucked please??

it just stays purple?

i had a hortilux super hps. had the purple or whatever added.. you would see it when it starts up... never got stuck in that spectrum though. I believe its your bulb bud.

naw stays on for 30secs then dead!

Could it be an ignitor prob LK?

Swap out the bulb with a spare.

If it lights its the bulb.


If it doesn't its the ballast.


You do have a spare right?

If not, this is a prime example why you should.

yeah i think the bulb. like jondamon said it probably wouldnt have done shit if it was ur ballast. sounds like internally the filament or ignitor or whatever on ur bulb isnt heating up right

this is the spare lol....im hopeing bulb...if its ballast im fucked, cant afford one till after this grow....6 weeks left

Then you're fucked til you can replace the bulb.

I've currently got 3 spares lol. 2x400w SYLVANIA with 9months usage under their belts, and a 600w generic hps lamp with 4months usage still left over from my 600w days.


Hope its just the bulb.

so do i! im using a maxibright compact ballast aka fire starter !!! its just all shit atm!

I dont have a spare for my 1000 but I do have both the mh and hps bulbs for it and 2 complete 400 watt hps just in case. The girls will have some kind of light lol.

just to clear this up for anyone in future....its the bulb thats all, so long as your ballast is trying to ignite it the ballast is ok......

No worries bro.


Something I personally do is renew my bulb every 9 months or so and keep it as a spare.

This way should anything happen you still have a bulb with usable time left on it.


Which bulb did you choose?

SYLVANNIA? POWERPLANT? SUNMASTER?

loool no i norm use sun masters but didnt quite have the coin this time round so got this



its only for the next 6 weeks then ill replace all my kit after harvest...i do have to say, it is no sunmaster!!

the upside is i should now be getting 600w from it instead of just using 600w

i personally prefer to replace them after every grow its only £25 ....£50 with two lights, considering the big picture its peanuts....word to the wise though, replacing bulbs evrey 8 weeks will leave you with lots of spares and no were to put them, but dont throw them all away though otherwise youll be on the no-name gear like me lol

I used to use SUNMASTER DUAL SPEC hps lamps. Pretty good lamp but I had some firing issues with my 600lumatek at that time.


The GROLUX by SYLVANIA are my choice now.

i agree, it is extreme i should just get a light meter and replace when they start dropping off, but £50 for piece off mind...priceless!!
