Proper Germination Temps?.

Hi All,

I always assumed this to be right around 78-80 degrees, but have recently read higher temps may be necessary for certain strains. I ask this b/c I am having difficulty with one strain in particular, and it isn't the first time...had the same issue 18 months ago with identical beans. I have not had any problems germinating any other strains using my method, just this C99.

75-80 degrees seems to be the perfect range, and I've noticed that a seed won't pop if it gets a little on the cool side. I only grow from seed and have had a 99% success rate in popping/germinating. Every now and then, you'll get a seed that just won't budge. I've also noticed that every strain has it's own time of "When". I have one strain that will pop in 1 day, while others can take 3-4. I use the paper towel method, zipped up tight in a Tupperware container and in complete darkness, covered with a box and then a towel. This has always worked, so I just keep doing it the same way. I only check the container once a day. Good luck!!

I'll use Sunshine Mix 4 plain watered drained for a day put two fingers of dirt into the baggie then warn to 85*-90* so that the inside of the bag streams up but not too hot before I put the seeds in the bag I'll soak the seed till they sink to the bottom of the cup should take 3-6 hours depending on the seeds if they don't sink after 6 hours they are probably no good , good seeds sink bad seeds float bad seeds are usually pale and soft ~:joint:

I had to take a refresher course today on germing beans, I learned a ton.

One of reasons I just switched to Sunshine 4(for everything)was to use as a seed starter mix. I added a bit more perlite and sowed beans directly as per the above link. After watering, I turned on my 160W merc vapor UV spotlight. Using a thermometer, I simply moved the light away until surface temp of soil remained at 80 degrees.

And that link was dead right about using Jiffy peat pellets, they cause necrosis(too many nutes). I tossed mine last Fall after burning some Malawi seedlings.
