Promix/roots organic replacement

I recently read some reports that roots organics has changed its ingredients. So I was looking for a replacement. I considered Promix however I noticed while scoping out the garden center where it was sold some bacon smelling individuals looked at the cars people were driving when customers would put more than 2 bags in their vehicles. When I scoped out several hydro shops they were also hotter than the 4th of July. So I chose a substitute and was looking for some advice to see if it's a suitable replacement in the Supersoil mix. Name is Gardener's Gold organic potting soil. It ran $8.99 a bag. PS this is my first organic/soil grow. Has anyone else noticed the increase of bacon at grow/hydro shops or am I smoking too much?

Paranoia is sometimes bud related but you're better off being this way. I hear that the shops are to notify the authorities when people pick up large quantities of CO2. If you gotta go pick something up and you're worried about being flagged, don't take your own vehicle. With regards to the mix, Promix is an amazing product and worth every penny.

Get a grip, and lose the drama. LOL

I have to admit I get everything at HD/Lowes/feed stores or online and haven't been to the hydro shop since 2009.

I do a LOT of container veggies and 2 above ground gardens and have had cops in the backyard (trying to snag a feral cat) and in the kitchen (drama next door) and just talked to them. No big deal. It's a small town, they see the garden and don't think twice if you don't give them a reason.

Don't invite them to the basement, but don't freak either. I don't consider what I'm doing much of anything and it shows.

I think you guys are missing my question. I'm asking is Gardener's Gold a suitable replacement for the Promix? BTW I used the soil already and mixed as instructed but in a 50 gallon tote. Put the top on and it's been a week now and I have a big web like covering over 1/4 of the top.

Yes you might have a bit of paranoia my friend lol. Roots Organic is strongly fertilized but Pro mix is basically devoid of nutrients. Roots is coco based while pro mix is peat based. My strategy is to use Roots then reamend and reuse it. It does get better as it ages and saves a ton of $$.

A good potting soil from any store would work. Avoid time released soils. Just add your regular amendments. I've never seen anything like a hydro store stake-out. I've always heard stories about it. Just don't pull up to a garden store in a porsche. you'll be fine.

I'm showing you plants in patio blend soil

You dont know how it performs, obviously.

If thats poor performance...post up some pics of your grow with patio blend that suck.

I dont think you have ever used it. I think you just popped off. Its cool, I dont care.

Its just that you're wrong.

If you say so bro but I have never opened up a High Times and seen any Patio Blend grows. I am not trying to argue with you but if you are going to try to convince me that $5 soil is a better option than a high quality blend its not going to happen. We are not growing cucumbers. We are growing something that is very pricey to grow and something we will be inhaling into our lungs. I am not going to spend a couple thousand bucks on equipment and beans just to try to save $50 on my soil and HOPE all goes well.

I dont get my soil advice from high times.

I'm not hoping either bro....lol...

Do those pics look like luck to you?

Spend however much you think you need to spend to feel like a good grower.

I dont care.

5 buck soil from Home Depot is fine if you can grow.

ahhhh....reduced to name calling.

How much over 18 years old are you?

I am showing the OP and you pictures of weed grown in Home Depot Patio Blend.

I used (used to use...lol) the EXACT two soils he mentioned except I used 707 instead of Organic.

I'm not sure what you think is dumb.

Here's what I've found out over the years.
You can be successful in pretty much any grow medium.
You can be unsuccessful in pretty much any grow medium.

No grow medium will get you completely through your grow by it's self.
All grow mediums must either be amended before use, or amended as they're being used.

Promix for Vegetables (in the green bag) is super, and my personal choice.
Roots is good stuff, and claims all they did was change the labeling, not the ingredients. Personally, I haven't used it in a while so I really can't comment on it.
FFOF and FFHF are just OK and WAY over priced for what you get. OF has EWC and is a better product than HF, imo. The FFHF I bought was full of tree bark, ugh.
The $1.98 bags of soil like Hyponex actually work pretty well too. They're just like every other medium and need amending. I used to mix 1 bag Hyponex and 1 bag Composted Manure, and nothing else. All I had to do was straight water until about 2/3 of the way through flowering.

Not being familiar with the Gardener's Gold brand, I have no comment.
Try it out and let us know how it performs.

Good luck

IDK, I make my own. Like ProMix++++++. I do use the peat moss from the same company (Premier), good stuff.

That big web is a good thing. Shows the micro herd is alive and healthy.
