Prolonged sleep and tiredness after smoking marijuana?

I have been out of weed on and off for about the past month while i have been waiting for my crop to come in and in that time i have noticed that when i smoked weed the night before i seem to sleep for a lot more hours than i usually would when i went to sleep sober, when i went to sleep sober i would usually sleep for under 8 hrs and wake up reasonably rested, but when i smoked the night before i usually got far past the conventional 8 to 10-12 hrs and i would wake up feeling very tired, i have experienced this when smoking my own home grown and Mexican, and with cloudy and amber Trichomes, so i was just wondering if anything like this happens to you? A few years ago i read about a study that said some chemical in weed blocked rem sleep and that is what causes the tiredness associated with waking up the next day, but i have also noticed a lot of vivid dreaming in this time frame so that seems some what contradictory.

I blaze every night before bedtime. Its the only time i smoke on weekdays. I get 7 hours of sleep per night and wake up slightly groggy, but after 10 minutes of moving around i feel great. My quality of sleep is 10x better on weed than off. In fact thats the only way i can cope with a sleep debt throughout the week between working 10 hours a day and going to the gym at night.

Keeping that in mind. My sleep is much better on an indica/kush than a sativa high, but they both work.

I find it difficult to sleep without smoking a little bud, I live in an apartment complex with a lot of tenants going in and out so I like to take a few tokes and knock out.

I have to wake up fairly early every day and only seem groggy when I don't immediately get out of bed when I wake up. I think it's all a state of mind....don't forget to wake and bake!!

I have this app on my phone that monitors your sleep cycle based on how much you move... not sure if it's accurate, but whatever. Anyway, I tried it a few nights in a row without smoking and I felt like I literally didn't sleep... but it said I had more REM sleep time. If I smoke before I go to bed, I fall asleep much easier and sleep more soundly but that app said I got less REM sleep. I did it for at least 3 days for each and got similar results. Really weird... But then again, I have awful insomnia and generally spend all night tossing and turning anyways.

its very known that MJ reduces the amount of REM sleep you getting (rem is when you dream) most advid MJ users never remember their dreams, unlike people who dont smoke or consume MJ interesting i wish there was more info on it but there really isnt too much done, perhaps soon they'll do a big study on it

I agree with most of you guys that i sleep much sounder and much faster when I'm stoned, i have a hard time falling to sleep with out being stoned i always have, ever since i was a kid i've had problems falling to sleep, but i still am not sure of the quality of the sleep as i said i just feel generally less rested when i smoke the night before, but i find it kinda strange how vivid my dreams have been and how well i remember having them, when weed is supposed to reduce rem sleep...

i dont think its SUPPOSED to reduce rem sleep i think it just does in a lot of people.

I think state of mind is important as well. Wake up and kick that ass out of bed. You don't have to hit the door running, but at least roll out and start moving around without immediately going to the tv or computer afterwards.

Wake and bake is about the only time I feel high these days. The rest of the time I just feel normal like I used to as a kid before the world got it's claws into me, just content and happy and ready for the next thing on the list of life.
