Problems germinating

I bought some white widow seeds from a seed company within the last 3 weeks. Seeds arrived as stated, my problem is they are not germinating. I have tried the papertowel and soak in water methods. Are there anyother ways?? The seed company had very cheap prices and cultivated their own seeds. I am assuming it is me could it be the seeds?

Get bottled water and put in glass cup and put in microwave for 30 seconds(so no infections from faucet water).
Dump warm water in a plastic cup or leave in that one(perfer plastic).
Put all your seeds in their. Take sandwich bag and put over top to keep warmth and moisture in.
Let them soak for 24 hours. Then put in the soil.
What I do is get one regular sized pot and put all the seeds spread on it and when they sprout I then place them in their own cups.
Do what is comfortable though, less steps mean less things that could get your baby sprouts damaged by mishandling them.

How else are you going to heat up bottled water?
i hear stoves heat water well too.. just fuckin with you, but it is true..

btw AltMaster-- chances are, if they havent germinated, they were inferior seeds... it happened to me when i ordered some Joey Weed: Northern Lights X Ak47 and Sugar Blossom seeds.. i got like 2 to germinate OUT OF 20!!!! i ordered all new seeds from attitude and got all Greenhouse Seed Co. seeds and every single one germinated in the exact same manner i tried to germinate the bunk seeds from JW... warmer water and constant heat promote germination... i take a little bit of fine sandpaper and cut it into the shape of a small match box and place it inside the match box. put your seeds in there, close it, and shake the fuck out of it. it will scratch the surface of the seeds and allow the shell to be more permeable to water which should make it go a little faster.. hope that helps

i'll never fuck around with germing in paper towels again after great success with planting them and giving water, put in a humidity dome, and put a seedling warming mat under it.

i planted two last thursday and they were out of the soil by saturday. :peace:

just got 10 seeds, 5 ace of spades, 5 ken's GDP
soaked seeds in cup until seed sank, if seed doesn't sink, it is no good(full of air)
placed in rapid rooter, 10 seedlings the next day.
10 for 10

Plant them individually to begin with and eliminate a transplanting!

Nuking the water only keeps the environment warm temporarily. Figure out what method you are going to use and during the waiting period, keep them someplace that is room temperature or slightly higher. Slightly being the key word here.

To answer the op's original Q, it could very well be the seeds, you should have seen something by now. Have you germed before? (So you'll know it's not bad tap water or anything like that, do u have a method that has worked before?)

Ok, heres my method which out of around 200 seeds has been 99% successful and is based on nature. Doesnt matter where my seeds come from, I do this with them all. Seeds arrive, into the fridge they go (simulating winter, not the freezer box or freezer, must be fridge) Put the seeds into a cup of some kind, sprinkle a little sand intot he container, cover with clingfilm or foil and swirl around. (this simulates scurrification where the seeds pass through an annimals intestines) No paper towel (the only paper towels I have seen in woods/forests etc have been dropped on lovers lanes and I wouldnt want my seeds to germ in those!!!!) Into moist rockwool or soil, depending what I intend to grow in. Soak cube/soil with ph'd water with a drop of superthrive (only non- natural bit) Cover hole with medium gently, not packing tightly. Place under a Daylight cfl (6500k) Be patient and within 3 days, green should appear, by 6 days all seeds should have sprouted. I have done this with 6 year old, well dried out seeds and it worked. Peace W

I'm expierenced so I just told him the way I would do it, I know how to handle little sprouts and I hate wasting soil or getting alot of pots ready for duds.

And nuking the water for a little still helps greatly then if you were to use regular temps.

I have never germed before this will be my first grow......I watched all the video's and read all the post on germing seeds and it seemed like they should be able to do it all by themselves just add water.....I guess the reallity is its harder than it seems. I have some old bag seed that I am going to try and germ....if that works I'm going back to the white widow and see where I'm at......Thanks All!!!!

Water is more important then you think.
All water can look the same, but some will have an overdue of iron in it, or pH is like 7.2.
Its better to use rain water or bottled water when dealing with marijuana plants.

No, it's not harder than it seems, pretty sure you got bunk seeds. Let me just give you my step by step, been at it decades.

5 seeds, take sm plate like a bread plate and add a 5x5 piece of paper towel to it. Now wet it. Now the PT is stuck to the plate so hold the plate vertically and shake so all the excess water is pulled from the cloth but make sure the entire cloth gets wet. Hold it upright till it stops dripping. Wipe edge of p[late with cloth. Drop seeds on cloth, spread out. Add another piece of paper towel, 6x6 this time over the top of seeds and soak real quickly under the faucet,...a quick on/off with the knob usually does it. Now gently press down between all the seedsso you get a good bit of the air out from between the 2 sheets. Shake off the same way you did it the first time, wipe edge of plate and cover with saran wrap. Fold back about 2" worth so everything in there can breath. Place somewhere dark and warm. Check in 24 hours. Remove before tap root is more than 1/2"

Also,
-check the ph of your tapwater

-def try some bagseeds, I'm curious

-stop buying cheap genetics :D

Good luck, grow 'em up!!

distilled water in a plastic cup over about 48 hours should get the taproot to break through the shell... put em in the dark. its literally the cheapest and easiest way to do it. i use root riot cubes until they are showing good healthy roots then put them in 4' rockwool cubes.. cleanliness, cleanliness, cleanliness... wash your hands after everything... someone earlier mentioned that if they dont sink, they are no good... pretty damn true.. and by inferior seeds, it doesnt mean that the seed company is bad, or that the genetics are shit... the best seed companies in the world still produce inferior seeds.. every plant does. they just dont sell them. usually lighter colored seeds and smaller seeds wont germinate at all or will produce slow growing plants..white widow will be light colored seeds anyway, but they should still be nice and plump. some of the best seeds that germinated the fastest came from a sack of trees i bought from a buddy... humidomes and heat mats are two handy mother fuckers to have

I am sad ordered some Flash seeds via the TUDE and my babies were flat in the breeders tube looked like someone dropped some serious weight on the package. Wasted $60 but I have never had issues before so I hope it is just an isolated case of a sledge hammer test. On the bright side my non usable arrived in 7 days to the west.

this is what i did with seeds in the past

i had 12 OG and 12 Sour Ds (got from a friend)

soaked in filtered water after 24 hours i went back and all had cracked open!

I then immediately soaked a paper towel with filtered water and placed seeds on towel then folded up
i also put them in a jar to keep some moisture in....when germinating seeds keep them in a dark place

After a day i went back to check on the seeds and all of them had a 1 inch long tap root starting
put the seeds in my mondi dome with some happy frog soil. the next day all put one broke soil and are starting there leaves

either i had awesome seeds or this method kicks ass
