Problem with TD-150 Duct Fan, terrible smell and smoke from motor

Hey Guys,

I really appreciate any help that you can offer. Last night I wired my TD-150 Duct fan. Some things to note: 1. I spliced the wires to an extension cord that is UL listed for outdoor appliances. Obviously, I didn't look very closely when purchasing it. 2. I used wire nuts to cover the spliced wires and they seemed to be too big for the wires. I used a lot of electric tape but I suspect that the wires could have slid out of their nuts and been resting in the electric tape. Not touching each other, but their respective electric tape wrappings could have been.

I believe those are the only 2 particulars in my case...could any of this explain the burning motor?

Yes a loose wire/intermitten electrical contact could certainly cause "heating-up" issues.

Also did u have to add an inordinate amount of length of wire, very long runs can gaet warm, espcially if u coiled up the extra length.

Has the fan run before? Or is it new. Might be defective.

Sometimes new electrical equipement can give off a smell for the first while, can u tougch the motor or is it getting really hot.

Is the fan motor 240 rated? If so feeding it 120 would seriously heat it up!

Check those out and let us know.

Good Growing
