Pro-tips Trellis plant spacing

About two+ weeks ago I over fertilized these plants but they made a comeback. I'll be flipping them to 12/12 soon, maybe the 15th.

I'm trying to anticipate plant spacing under the trellis. I had eight plants but decided to eject two because I could see future overcrowding as an issue so now have six.

As shown now the plants are spaced 16" from the tent sides and 24" apart on center, 3 gallon soil pots.

Got any other ideas?

If you're flipping them that small, you probably could have gotten away with 8 but the spacing looks adequate. They should fill up perfectly. Id put one over the top of them now(maybe 4-6 inches into the plant), and one more 1-1.5 ft higher and just get it out of the way.

That or do a defoliation week 3, and then put a second one up. Plants will likely stop vertical growth around that time

comments based on my trellis method, using plants just like yours in a 4x4:

need more time, 15th is too soon. try to keep canopy even as possible. dont put trellis in yet until flipped, it will just be in the way.

looks like they are topped, which is good. if needed, top a tall girl again, otherwise bend the branches out low and flat. this is LST.

goal is fill the tent with flat wide plants.

when they are large enough to flip (about 2' wide), pull them out and do a final shaping and lollipop. remove any node that isnt getting direct light at this point and lollipop the rest of her.

place them back in the tent and drop first layer of trellis. place 2nd layer about 10" above the 1st layer.

since the tent is already full, not much more needs to be done. they will stretch up through the layers of trellis and support themselves.

after stretch is complete, remove anything down low that is heavily shaded. we dont need larf

for reference, here is pics of last grow with the back half of tent using this method in stretch and mid-flower
best of luck! :blsmoke:

I can veg longer, no problem. I'll move the flip day to June 1st.

Thinking about the LST bending branches out, how do I keep the branches down without a net?

I was going to put the net in now > bend all the branches out under the net, slowly sliding the net down locking the branches in a horizontal position.

How does this add up.

Usually when I try to bend branches the plants will try to correct the bent branches upwards.

I'm going to install the trellis above the plants then push it down. As I work the netting down I'll fan the branches of the plants out like spokes on a wheel below the net. I plan on working the netting down to about 6 inches above the soil.

Doing this I believe will fill the tent with green because all the larf/etc will grow up to the light.

Clear? Should I go in a different direction?

all valid and great questions. i did what you intend to do a couple times before i tried this method. ime, once the net is installed access becomes more challenging. the plants can lift the net too, even if pulled taut.

yes, the branches will try and lift back up with LST. however, with regular training every 2-3 days they will maintain the flatter shape. I'll post some more pics when lights come on, im currently doing this method. Im in veg week 4 or 5

What's the rush to get the trellis on?

I find it a pia so I prefer to wait until 2 wks after flipping, it takes any guess work away and I have room to move in the meantime.

If it's any interest here's a example.

Here is some before and after pics to show what im doing. This works for me. However you decide, happy growin and best of luck my guy! :blsmoke:

It looks like mine might be ready for the net next weekend, 2 strains, S1 seeds hence varying sizes

The two that got ejected are living in the yard.

How's this for LST? The Helicopter.

But you can see the tips are already curving up. The thought is using the netting I can weave the branches into the net so the branches can't turn up.

By June I'll only need three Helicopter plants to fill. the tent.

The two living outside have been in full, direct sun all day. I'll transplant to ground behind the shed next rain.

Today I changed the light schedule to conserve energy. Dark begins @ 11:00AM - 7:00PM.
