Preserving genetics

I have never done anything with breeding plants before. I have always thrown out my males. If I have a female and a male from seed of a strain I would like to preserve what exactly would I do? If I had just females would forcing a herm produce seeds that were usable?

I've been taking picture of strains that I like that way when the technology advances to the point where real things can be recreated from photos I'll be rockin'. I've also been taking pictures of seeds.

breeding the plants for seeds is just you want to have seeds of that strain thats 1 female or more and 1 male you only want 1 male so you know whos the daddy of your babys so yea you have 10 normal seed say 5 turned male 5 turned female if you are breeding for best you take your best male and best female and put them in the same room so the male can pollen the female to make the seeds the seeds will be like you male and female that why you pick the best ones so you get the best under stand?

also say cross breeding say your growing some white widow all female bc you bought female seeds and you buy reg seeds of Agent Orange then out of the AO you get this huge nice easy grower and find out its a male.... dont be said get that plant and one of the best widows you got bc their female and breed them you will get widow and AO hybrid some seed might be more AO then widow and some more widow then AO just depinds how the seed grows you never know how it will turn out just try to pick the best of the best only way i can explain breeding hope i can help

If I were to germ 5 seeds, and say 4 of them pop. say... 4/4 are female. How would I go about taking that strain, not crossing it with anything else, and producing seeds from said strain? How would I keep the pollen seperate from my other female plants if I had any at the time? Change clothes and take a shower before dealing with them?

if their all female you cant get seeds with out a male the male makes the pollen that makes the seeds yea hermie makes seeds but the seeds will more likely hermie. i think the best thing for you to keep the strain and have all females and have nice bud with no seeds is clones just a cute off the plant and grows another plant that is the same 100% as the plan you cut it off and dont even have to grow from seed and they not pop heres a video about clones and making them

Thank you for that, I know how to clone. I was looking for a way to get SEEDS that I could save without having to have a light on all the time as I prefer to grow outdoors.

Well, it seems to me, this is what you would do:

1. Make a bunch of clones

2. On half of them, use colloidal silver to make them produce pollen sacks.

3. Flower them all.

4. Let one of your ex-females, that are now male, pollenate the females.

5. Voila! you have seeds.

colloidal silver - would I find that in a hydro store? How would I keep the pollen off of other female plants?

what really!?! where do we find there also could he just do the lower buds and make those males and leave the top female and only do it to one plant?

From what I have read - I need plant A and plant B - plant B must herm and use pollen from plant B to polinate a CLONE from plant A to make it work.

damn sounds like alot of work i would just buy some reg seeds of the same strain get a male collect its pollen and just pollen the female i want the seeds form mhmmm you could take a hermy and collect its pollen to i guess

I am covering all of my bases. If I get all females(which might happen you never know) and I want to preserve the genes that is the only way I could get seeds for a later grow. That is why I would do it. I want to make sure everthing works out okay.
