what kinda light you using in there??
I've got 111W CFL in the flower case, which can truly do the whole job on its own. Really.. PC case, aluminum duct tape, 2 power strips, 2-3 big CFLs plugged into the power strips with converters. Spray the interior flat white. It's easy.< $100 if you can find a free pc case..

BTW, I'd really like to stay away from sodiums and other high intensity fixtures due to electric costs and heat.
keep in mind 400w = 400w
cfl's or hps
except 1 is going to use the light energy better
theres a guy on here that used 600w of cfl's and yeilded 3oz
where as another guy used a 600w hps and yeilded a lb
but both were using the same amount of energy
my point is cfl's dont save you money if your just going to
burn the same amount of energy

Building my first pc case cost me about $100 total. I yield > 1 oz. per harvest out of it every 3 months. That's plenty for me to smoke. If you have $300, you can build 3 cases for an oz. per month. Easy math, for me...

Also, I should mention that it's pretty cool to have people over.. working in the house or whatever, stand 1 foot away from growing pot and have absolutely no idea.

that's what I'm talking about. My finance and I both smoke and a decent 1/8 will last a couple of weeks.

Makes sense. That's a huge difference in the yield being the light sources are of the same wattage. So, being light is light in terms of wattage (power) then what constitutes the difference in yield? The only thing I can think of, other than a few million other environmental variables, is the actual light spectrum. Obviously an HPS emits an orangish light, lower kelvin (I've read that they range from 2000 - 3000K, 3000K offering more blue light) whereas florescent bulbs can range from warm to cool, higher kelvin or perhaps daylight balanced. Assuming all other things being equal, i.e., water, nutrients, ambient temp, nutrient cycling (jeez), etc. then why would a HPS yield more than a CFL of the same wattage?

So after researching I've decided on the Stealth Hydro Bubbleponics system and will use a closet to contain it. I like the fact it's self contained, comes with all the basics to get started. I feel like it will be a good introduction into hydroponics.
Much of my research was based on this site from user Roseman. Interesting and detailed stuff.

The link to the system is http://www.stealthhydroponics.com/product.php?xProd=2

If anyone cares to offer insight or feedback on this system I'd love to hear it, keeping in mind that I chose this system for cost and simplicity.

Thanks for all the responses already!

You could get a decent PC grow box from the right seller for 300 or less
You can get really good tents for less than 300, but make sure you don't get a cheap brand because some of them are cheap foreign rip offs that use materials that produce fumes and crap I hear (I got one of the best, a Grow Lab tent that was something like 2.58ft x 2.58ft x 6 or 7 feet comes with viewing windows, good zippers and flaps, can hold like 120 pounds from the roof etc)
