Pre-flowers during VEG.

Ok, so I was reading on strainhunters, and Franco said if you leave a plant in veg. on a 18/6 cycle, 2-3 months after it has already been in veg. state they develop pre-flowers sometimes. I was wondering if anybody has seen this phenomenon?

"Mother rooms are often kept at an 18-hrs light cycle, sometimes at a longer one, to promote vegetative growth. Depending on the strain(s) present in the room, light cycle can be adjusted to prevent flowering. Some strains, when kept on vegetative growth for longer than 2 or 3 months tend to start flowering, or to show pre-flowers and to slow down their vegetative growth. A good way to prevent this from happening is to increase the photoperiod from 18 to 20 hours." _Franco

I'm in a 16/8 environment and mine popped up a couple days ago, the best way to keep your plants in veg is 18/6 & 24/0 . at 24/0 according to the medicinal marijuana grow bible it can keep a plant in veg for up to a year. 18/6 should be approx the same.

Uh . . . yes I have seen it as have most growers. It's a sign, not a phenomenon. You are getting ahead of yourself though. I'll ask - do you have the room and light for a veg that many months that you would be concerned with stopping the setting of pre-flowers?

No, I just dont need pre-flowers, I used feminized seeds. And pre-flowering symbols that I cannot take a cutting from it. If you cut from a flowering plant, it will continue to flower in the cloner! Its not about size that im trying to control, its timing. They are on a 18/6, the 22nd of this month makes them 2months in the veg unit and 3months on a veg photoperiod. Now that I write it down I know thats not long enough, hotrod is right I may just be getting ahead of myself. I just never had to choose a mother, and it seems to not be a hip and trending topic

Wrong. Take the cutting, let it root and put the rooted clone under 18/6 to 24/0 and the flowering will cease, the plant will revert to vegetation.

pre-flowers do not mean it is in flower at all.....

my current veg have had pre-flowers for over a month, and continue to veg.
clones also will not need to reveg with pre-flowers.

ed rosenthal said once that it was best to give it some light after 4 hours of dark even just for a few minutes to break up the hormone that allows the plant to start flowering. my veg is now going 20 on 4 off with an hour off during the day
