ppm question

Thanks for looking, so I have a flood and drain table. 1000Hps, just starting week 3 of flower. plants are about 3 ft tall. If I try to take my ppm up to 1000, I get nute burn..950 nute burn..I'm ok at about 850..I should be at 1100 right now..had anyone experienced this? Is that normal? The plants look fine. I can't imagine I'll ever take them to 1400, 850 seems to be pushing it..any advise?

plants look great man. certain strains and certain medium just require less nutes. they will really start to fatten up here in the next 20-30 days. you should probably try and push the nutes a little harder as they do and require more nutrients for bud production. a little tip burn is fine. try and keep track of ppm levels for every week and then the next time you grow that strain you will know.

i'm running some power plant in week 3 and i've pushed it to 1475 without any burn. just depends on the strain.

Some Strains eat more than others, as far you're Green and Healthy rise that Nuts bro, if you get Nuts Burn Flush and start low PPM again, remember to let the Plant Metabolism to work, do not OverNut. :fire:
Right now i'm doing 1.6-1.7 on some Arjan's Haze 3 and White Widow and they look fine but I'll try 1.5-1.6 next time.

Thanks for the replies, I really appriciate it. Its Hindu kush.. Do you think I should take it up 100ppm every nute change..I change every 7 days, until I can't push anymore of course

Yeah just try not to Burn them, at 1.7EC 850TDS should be fine bro. Make them eat all those Nutrients with the pH not the PPM. At a good stage kicking the pH will get all the Nuts available, now is very inportant Phosphorus and Potassium... What kind of Meters are you using?

My ph is good, I'm real anal about my plants....my meter is pretty good, I can't think of the name. I can't go in the room to get it, lights are off! Its digital, I calibrate it every week. I just get stressed over the nute burn. Everyone says I need to be at 1000/1100. I just can't get take it to the level and I want to make sure I'm getting all I can out of the plant. I don't want a loose crappy crop...

I'd also imagine needs vary by growth stage, during stretch it tends to suck the living shit out of media. Also if you slowly rise the ppm the plant can likely better adjust to it. Of coarse on the other end of the spectrum, the extra ferts plus what is in your media may add up to levels of toxicity.... 2 or 3mm wort of burn on an otherwise large and healthy leaf worries me none.

Ok great, thanks for the input. Thanks everyone... The help is appriciated!!!

I like to really whack mine until they can't take anymore.....you just have to get to know your strain as people have said. I've never been afraid of a little burn, those are going to make you very happy ;).

Whose Hindu is that.....the seed breeder you picked. I really like the structure of the colas, they are going to be solid and big.

I just got home so I coudlnt respond this afternoon. I actually got the plants as clones from a clone store in So Cal. So I have a new question in regards to the ppm. So when I got home I went in the room to check my PH before flooding the table and as I was looking closely at the girls I discovered some discoloration on about 3 buds, please look at the picture and see what you think is going on? Is that normal Pistols turning into red/Orange hairs? or something else? if it is something else how do I fix it. It is only on smaller buds. The big ones are fine, room temp doesnt get over 80. the lights are 20" from the plant. I added a few other pics of the plants in addition to a close up of the bud im concerned about..thanks for looking!bud 1.jpgbud 2.jpgoverall.jpg

You're just paranoid, all looking awesome and natural, those pistil hairs will all dry up and shrivel like that given long enough. And just like any flower there are a few colour variations in the default flowers.

Last grow I ran my F & D at 1250 ppms without issues.

This time I am doing a cross of that mother in an AB comparison vs HPA. To keep it fair I am following HPA recommended ppms- < 500 in veg < 800 in mid flower.

The F & D plants are no worse for wear- amazing growth with ~ 2/3 the nutes

Marc i'm doing some Arjan's Haze 3 and White Widow at 1.7EC but i get some Burns sometimes. You should not exceed 1.4EC bro, that's a high Nuts Level Masters says. If you give to much Ferts the Plant will grow slower and get those Burns and others problems... With a proper dose they grow better and stronger. It's make sense if you think about it, if we're getting Burns and dead leaves and stuff is because the Plant doesn't feel good, if the Plant it's not Dark Green then they are working great and the Metabolism do the work. I will not exceed 1.4EC for my next Grow and see the results. Remember that TDS is x500 and PPM is x700 so make sure you're making the right reading.
Good Luck

Not sure why you'd WANT to have higher concentrations than required. Wasting money and risking lockouts, buildups, and other problems. If your ppms aren't going down, you have no reason to raise them. Don't worry about what you think they "need" to be at by a certain timeframe, just go by the plants. You can't 'pump' nutrients into the plants, and you're not going to benefit them by putting more than they want to take in. (co2, temps, humidity affect metabolism; thats how you get them to speed up and be more efficient)
